Weather Forces McCain to Cancel Event on Oil Rig Off Gulf Coast
The Sun ^ | July 24, 2008 | Staff Reporter of the Sun

Senator McCain can't seem to catch a break during Senator Obama's widely watched trip abroad this week. The Arizona senator's campaign had planned for the Republican candidate to make a dramatic push for offshore oil drilling while standing on a rig off the coast of Louisiana today, but weather associated with Hurricane Dolly forced the campaign to cancel, Politico reported. Mr. McCain will instead head to Ohio and attend a summit on cancer with Lance Armstrong. The detour also forced Mr. McCain to scrap a meeting with Louisiana's Governor Jindal, who has been mentioned as a possible vice presidential pick.

OBAMA DROPS $5M ON OLYMPICS

Senator Obama's campaign is purchasing $5 million of advertising on NBC to air during the Olympics, a trade publication, AdAge, reported. Some of the ads will air on the broadcast network, while others may be carried by NBC/Universal-owned cable networks, such as CNBC, MSNBC, and Telemundo. Mr. Obama's buy is the only substantial network television ad purchase by a presidential campaign in recent years, AdAge said. It was not clear whether the purchase would have Mr. Obama announced as a "brought-to-you-by" sponsor of NBC Olympic coverage.

MCCAIN ISSUES 'J.V. SQUAD' CREDENTIALS TO PRESS

The McCain campaign had some fun with its traveling press corps yesterday, ribbing reporters who were covering the Republican in Pennsylvania instead of Senator Obama's foreign trip. The campaign issued press credentials that read: "JV Squad/Left Behind to Report in America." On one side the credentials featured the Statue of Liberty against a backdrop of the American flag, while on the other was a picture of a man drinking French wine and an image of the Eiffel Tower.

McCain’s response to the Obamamania this week has been pathetic.

To be honest, Obama has done more to hurt himself without McCain’s help.

Weather? As in “the wind changed?”

Dolly is out past Big Bend now in Mexico...NOT in the gulf.

So he’s going NOW?

NO? Then he chickened out and has NOTHING to do with weather.

Spineless fool.

It's not enough. McCain still needs to give us a reason to vote FOR him. It would have been a nice contrast to see McCain holding a large rally with U.S. troops or cadets. Maybe he could have delivered a major speech on energy to as energy producers forum. Anything....he just meekly disappeared for most of the week. This would would have been a great time for McCain to have been hammering away at getting the economy going, while Obama is gallivanting across Europe.

If he went out to one of those rigs now, he'd likely be the only one there. The oil companies evacuate those rigs when a big storm approaches. It takes a few days to get them staffed up and inspected for damage after a storm passes.

Exactly. It seems he spends all his time talking about Obama.McCain's already an unattractive candidate. Griping doesn't help him at all. It makes him look like a bitter soreloserman.

Let's see some excitement, some energy, some vision, plans ANYTHING!

The retail price of gasoline is coming down for the time being, so the oil issue isn’t front burner. McCain was able to counter O’Bama’s speech in Berlin with a press conference in a German restaurant. Seems even.

McCain does not appear to want to win. He lacks enthusiasm. Almost every day he makes a serious gaffe - Iraq border, Czech Republic, Sunnis, the Surge, etc. The media has gone easy on him so far, probably hording it until after the convention.

USS McCain (log): This record is being started as the possibility appears to exist that the namesake of this ship may be mentally unbalanced....

Agreed. He has even less steam in his campaign engine than Thompson.(I’m STILL P!$$ed at him!)
He’s gonna have to do better than what he’s doing if he’s gonna make it in November.

Excuses aside, then he's going next week? On which day?

No? Not happening? That's what I thought. The political wind has changed and McPain found a conveneint way to duck the grand move.

I think McCain didnt go because of the oil spill in NO at the mouth of the Mississippi. You know dems would have been ranting that is the reason not to drill.

A VOTE FOR MCCAIN IS A VOTE AGAINST OBAMA!

Got me. I don't have his schedule. But going out to an empty, posibbly damaged oil rig would not make for good PR shots.

BTW. If you hate the guy so damn much, what do you care what he does or where he goes? He ain't gitting your vote no matter what... right?
