Obama's speech today in Berlin, hailed as a "major" address, has at least one major, glaring error that shows that nether Obama nor his handlers and speech writers were thoroughly familiar with the facts. Obama's main theme was about the "walls" that separate all of us one from another. He claims that many of these "walls" have been taken down and hails that as progress. But in at least one instance he is wrong. In fact more walls have been built where Obama claimed they were taken down.
First the relevant section of Obama's misconception (my bold for emphasis):
The walls between old allies on either side of the Atlantic cannot stand. The walls between the countries with the most and those with the least cannot stand. The walls between races and tribes; natives and immigrants; Christian and Muslim and Jew cannot stand. These now are the walls we must tear down.
We know they have fallen before. After centuries of strife, the people of Europe have formed a Union of promise and prosperity. Here, at the base of a column built to mark victory in war, we meet in the center of a Europe at peace. Not only have walls come down in Berlin, but they have come down in Belfast, where Protestant and Catholic found a way to live together; in the Balkans, where our Atlantic alliance ended wars and brought savage war criminals to justice; and in South Africa, where the struggle of a courageous people defeated apartheid.
(Full Obama speech transcript here.)
Obama claims that the walls built to separate Protestant from Catholic have come down in Belfast. Well, in fact, they have not. In reality MORE ARE BEING BUILT all the time.
As a May 5th USA Today story chronicles, "Ten years after peace was declared in Northern Ireland, one might have expected that Belfast's barriers would be torn down by now. But reality, as usual, is far messier. Not one has been dismantled. Instead they've grown in both size and number."

“He was energizing the parasite class to vote for him because they know full well that he will buy their votes with the plunder seized from hard working taxpayers. The welfare scum and those who think like they do know him and love him.”
I agree whole-heartedly and am very angered by this point. The parasite class tends to multiply much faster than the working class...Ultimately, we are out-voted and made into their servants, and subject to their eternal whining...Ain’t Democracy grand?
A complete, moronic, over generalization. The media picks the candidates. Who was your choice and what did you do about it?
The fact that you doubt McCains love of country tells me something about you. What have YOU done for America?
Its conservatives like you who will cost us all dearly.
McCain went through what he went through much as Kerry did, to no apparent purpose. For conservative credentials he is opposed to earmarks, that’s about it. I mean, we’re talking about a guy who buys the global warming hoax hook, line and sinker. Plus, liberal Republicans always lose. Plus, I campaigned for Goldwater in 1964, wrote in for Reagan in 1976, and I haven’t believed what I’ve believed all these years to then tell myself there’s anything redeeming about John McCain other than his long-ago military service record, which was admirable but from which he seemingly learned nothing.
Well effing said. Best description I’ve seen yet.
“A complete, moronic, over generalization. The media picks the candidates. Who was your choice and what did you do about it?”
46% of Americans believe Congress is controlled by Republicans.
I am aware of the political landscape, and generally informed about things that impact me. Most Americans are not. Have you ever seen those “man on the street” things? Try it yourself, ask some people who is secretary of state. Ask some Americans to name the Speaker of the House, or the Senate Majority Leader. Better yet, as them to name their senators and representative.
My observation is a generalization, to be sure. Even a moron could see that. But it’s not moronic, I do have basis for it.
Obama expects humanity to join together in a kind of lukewarm goo. Ain't gonna happen. And will lead to more war, more death and more division.
And the 'courageous' people have helped place an evil socialist government in power. 70% of the population would like to see the minority government return.
New statistics being churned out by the hour: every 20 minutes a child under age 10 is being raped.
South Africa owes it's present condition to the U. S. Government, along with its socialist european allies who banned SA goods. Nice work.
More than just one probably, but you can bet that George Soros is one of them!
George “the Greater” His name has come up more than once in similar conversations.
Fake but accurate! Just words...Just speeches...
I wouldnt get too excited about this. Hes referring to metaphorical walls. And certainly the political walls in Northern Ireland have indeed fallen. Not according to his speech. He mentioned NOTHING about any "metaphorical" anything. No words in his sentence alludes to anything he's saying as being metaphorical.
