McCain Veers Off Script, Talks About His Cancer Battle
The Wall Street Journal - Washington Wire ^ | 2008-07-25 | Elizabeth Holmes

Posted on 07/24/2008 10:05:32 PM PDT by rabscuttle385

The original draft of John McCain’s speech at the Livestrong Summit Thursday evening made no mention of his own struggle with cancer. The text made a jab at Barack Obama, emphasized the need for improved health care and vowed to take on the tobacco industry — but excluded all references to the Arizona senator’s bout with melanoma.

I don’t care. I’m voting for McCain because he’s white.

Ehh..rabscuttle is consistent...

Next time you want to talk smack about me, please have the courage to ping me to your comment.

And they fight like hellcats against any notion that McCain just may be a reasonable Republican.

MartinStyles, McCain may be a Republican, but he is most certainly not a conservative. Is FR a Republican cheerleading outfit now?

Blah blah blah.../

Next time you wish to take potshots at Mad Jon speaking about recovering from Cancer, try treating the subject with a bit more respect.

A high bar to be sure, but do try.

I’m sure you can do it....

McCain is part of the RINO cancer that's running amok within the GOP.

Totally classless and contemptible comment. Yeah cancer is so funny... NOT!

McCain’s affairs with Liberalism have caused many problems, but enough of the endless recoil. It’s time to save it for next year.

This battle is ours to lose regardless of the flawed policies McCain embraces. He’s the ‘dog’ that I will vote for to defend my home.

God bless John McCain.

You mean, like the infamous "We're going to shut the bigots up!" comment from Lindsey Graham, McCain's buddy, last year during McCain's amnesty blunder?

I hold McCain in the highest of contempt, next to Kennedy and Graham, for his actions on amnesty for illegals and the carbon credit trading scam.

So I guess you prefer the laughable globetrotting obama now?

What did McCain personally do to you? I mean, he supported Heller recently, and the judges decisions, that’s the last I heard from him really.

obama did a 180 on that subject.

I think you have some sick personal agenda that even cancer is ‘fair game’ when attacking.

Lol. So you have to come up with a third person, Lindsey Graham, to justify your low-blow against McCain?

It's a low-blow only when the liberal has an (R) after his or her name, eh?

Here at FR illness related low-blows are frowned upon. Did you miss the Moderators’ clampdown on Ted Kennedy tumor threads or when another liberal is stricken with cancer, stroke etc.? Most FReepers retained a sense of minimal class even for the biggest liberal scoundrel! Not because we give a heck about Ted Kennedy or KKK Byrd, but because we are better than the DU-gutter.

To name a few. IMO, those issues, alone, will do more to destroy this country than any other issue on the table today.

Did you catch his comments about Tobacco? He basically says that the (Republican) members of congress that wouldn’t go along with his legislation (to increase taxes by $500 billion over 25 years) were on the take, or “rewarded” in a variety of ways by the tobacco lobby.

I dont know of any so-called "Obama lovers" on Free Republic, [unless they are liberal trolls who just signed up and have a shelf life of a mosquito hit with Raid, and are booted off FR] and accordingly find it rather intriguing that you have found them.

Could you perhaps back the charge and give names specifically?

We would be hypocrites to bash anything and all things about Obama that come out, and then give passes to John McCain here on INDEPENDENT/CONSERVATIVE Free Republic.

If we want to lick the soles of John McCain in true Bushbot fashion, I suppose so. But if we want to pursue TRUTH, John McCain is going to come in for his fair share of hot fire set to the posterior.

Moral relativism is popular around election time - I called it more than a year ago, though I guessed it would be Rudy in McCain's position. I said that by August, most on FR would rally behind the Republican nominee (Giuliani - hated on FR at the time, but more popular than McCain!) and brand detractors as pro-Hillary traitors who want the terrorists to win. I said that the leftist bogey(wo)man of the Democrats would cause even many conservatives to abandon their core convictions and vote for "the lesser evil". Some didn't think I was giving denizens on this site enough credit.

Obama should not make McCain any more palatable on FR now than 8 months ago when the McCain ping list had 3 (slight underestimate, lol) members (including his cat, which was probably vying for points for a free McCain t-shirt anyway) and only Fruity Giuliani was more unpopular than McCain.

Now have a look. People pondering Lieberman (minus Gore, or not?) for VP in a positive light. I have seen posters say they would vote for Hillary Clinton as a Republican if she was facing against Obama. WTH??? Mao vs Stalin would have these people voting for the "lesser communist", and calling anyone who refuses a traitor, or childish, or an extremist - someone refuses to accept the "obvious binary decision". Failure to support Stalin? OBVIOUS MAOIST COMMIE SCUM, DU INFILTRATOR!!! This is not hyperbole; pro-Hillary sentiments on FR would runneth over if she endorsed McCain.

One particularly sad thing I noticed is that many of McCain's earliest and most vocal supporters (including those who sided WITH HIM AND KENNEDY during the immigration debacle, even going as far as to call us "know-nothings" and racists) are now trying to pass off that McCain was "not their first choice" or "their last choice" and that they disagree with him on many things (including immigration and global warming), but that Obama is blah blah blah, so we must support McCain!

This is similar to the Hannity strategy - Hannity has a really good shtick. Goad enough conservatives to his side by mildly rebuking leftist behavior of RINOS when it is harmless, but tow the party line at the end of the day, hoping to drag along all the lemmings who "identify" with him. Feign conservatism when it is harmless to do so, and then abandon all principles when it is worth a damn.

That said, making threads like this is petty. If the quality of McCain's campaign was the weak point, my house would be filled with free McCain merchandise by now. As it stands, I am hoping the McCain campaign selects a CONSERVATIVE VP candidate who could run in 2012 - it would make voting FOR the Republican ticket much easier for many conservatives (providing at least the philosophical out of voting for the VP as a way to endorse him for the NEXT election).
