John McCain is now winning among likely Colorado voters, helped by a surge of sentiment blaming Democrats for the soaring price of gas, new poll results show.
The Quinnipiac University polls shows McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, the top choice among 46 percent of likely Colorado voters. Democrat Barack Obama is the top choice among 44 percent of likely voters.
A month ago, Obama held a 49-44 percent lead over McCain in the same poll.
And in the U.S. Senate race, Republican Bob Schaffer has closed the gap against Democrat Mark Udall. Udall was ahead a month ago by 10 percentage points, but the latest numbers show a dead heat — 44 to 44.

After today I think McCain will start leading in every states poll.

Other than Denver, Boulder and Aspen, the folks around here want lower fuel prices, want the increase in jobs drilling and mining would bring, and oh yes, the royalties on the extracted ‘gold’.

I thought that the Ras poll showing McCain up 5 in OH was silly, and I thought the ones showing him down in CO and FL were equally silly. This is about right, and him down 2-3 in OH is about right.
Ras had McCain up 10 in Ohio.
Polls are REALLY all over the map.

They are planning on it. Only from the little guys like you and me. Remember Ritter is floating the initiative to raise taxes on you and me by $300 million a year.
As always, poll results depend on the turnout model.
But regardless of that, there is just no longer any question that Rasmussen was first to pick up the trend of Obama weakening. The lead has evaporated.
Frankly, Colorado is absolutely huge. If McCain holds those EVs, Obama faces the same Kerry problem. Even if he takes Iowa and New Mexico, Ohio still beats him. If Romney actually delivered Michigan, the Obama team runs out of places to go.
Almost every model of Obama winning the Presidency includes Colorado. If McCain prevails here, Bambi is going to need to capture a lot of the blue collar vote in places like Ohio, and that is very hard to see happening.
I wouldn't be so sure.
I know this is anecdotal, but my entire extended family lives in Southern Ohio. All of them voted for Hillary! in the primary. 2/3 of them voted for Kerry against Bush. Not a single one of them is voting for Obama.
I don't dare ask them the reason because I don't think I want to know, but I have to believe they are not alone.
I remember the Michigan campaign for governor. For a time DeVos was ahead as Obama was, and then lost in November. I think it’s about wiating and then pushing like crazy near the end.
Obama is handing MCain a feast in terms of stuff to batter him with. MCain is busy making appearances while his staff wipes the floor with him (Obama).
All he needs to do now is begin denouncing the Democrats who are holding back drilling and things will go smoothly. A lot of Americans might not flaunt it, but they are fed up with everything.

It might not be such a mistake in the long run. Reports of McCain’s (imminent) demise are greatly exaggerated. I think he’ll be fine. I hope he doesn’t run for a second term. Then, in 2012, I’d like to see Palin and Jindal compete in that arena if they want to.

My wife voted for Obama, whom she would never vote for in a general, just because she hated Hillary.
