Romney: A Mistake for McCain
Real Clear Politics ^ | 07/23/3008 | Dick Morris

Posted on 07/23/2008 5:33:00 PM PDT by JRochelle

You've probably heard the story about the tycoon who wanted to bring out a new kind of dog food.

He spent lavishly. He hired the best marketing person, the top PR firm, the best ad agency, the No. 1 packaging expert, the most powerful distributor -- but the sales were flat after six months.

He summoned his consultants to a meeting and asked why the food wasn't selling. "The dogs won't eat it," was the answer that came back.

And so it is with Mitt Romney. Despite outspending his rivals by huge margins throughout the primaries, the dogs won't eat it. He lost Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Florida and California. The only primaries he won were in Michigan, where Dad was governor; LDS states; and a few states on Super Tuesday in which his California-obsessed rivals couldn't spare the cash to advertise. Only John Connolly in 1968 had a worse cash-to-delegates ratio.

And John McCain rightly did not like Romney's tactics during the primaries. Using his gigantic money advantage to dominate television, he seized early leads in virtually all of the primary states, only to lose them later on. And, when they started slipping away, he resorted to unfair, distorted, scorched-earth negative ads, betting that his opponents couldn't afford to spend enough for the truth to catch up to his charges.

It’s called humor. Sarcasm, specifically.

Never mind.

You obviously wouldn’t understand. You’re clearly, so obsessed with Mitt you have lost perspective.

(subliminal que: MittromneyforVPMittromneyforVP)

Hmm. I have a sudden urge to support Mitt Rommey for Vice President.

You?... :)

Mitt’s the man.

I’ve even come up with slogans.

McCain should “pick Mitt” because he’s “got the base in place”

There are a hundred reasons Mitt would be the best choice.

He’s intelligent. He’s moral. He’s personable.

He has leadership experience. He’s inspiring.

He’d be a dramatic foil, defusing health concerns some may have about McCain.

It would set him up as the (next) Republican president after McCain, either after 8 years or God forbid sooner.

And there’s another aspect, which I really almost hesitate to mention, because as nearly palpably real and hugh as it is for actually winning the election, how to say this?

Women. That is to say. Well, they’re smart.

You know.

Women are wonderful. That’s what I’m trying to say. ;)

OK I couldn’t say it.

Your statement is not only non-evangelical-hating, it’s pretty much what an evangelical friend of mine told me.

“Once they take a close look at Obama’s positions and take a closer look at Romney, they’ll know whom they share the most values with, easily.”

Of course, this evangelical knows he’s voting for P/VP and not pastor.

MDS sufferers say the darndest things.

Lindsey Graham is possibly the worst possible pick he could make. And there are plenty of bad picks to go for (like Crist).

“Of course, this evangelical knows he’s voting for P/VP and not pastor.”

If we listed all the major issues in this campaign, then noted where both evangelicals and Mormons stood on each issue, I bet there would be few if any differences.

It’s when some want to start comparing theology and holy books that arguments over differences start. And none of that has any bearing on how anyone would govern as far as I know.

John Kasik

John Thune

Rob Portman

Eric Cantor

Mike Pence

Chris Cox

Haley Barbour

Carly Fiorina (a maybe)

================================================

I bet you're one of those freepers who whines relentlessly about how the "Gang of 14" was the most awful thing on the planet, yet you're willing to overlook the fact John Thune obstructed Bolton's nomination to the UN and pledged to vote down Bolton unless Bush rewarded South Dakota with a complete unrelated pork request.

Amazing how you guys scream bloody murder over alledged "judges" (can't cite actual names though) that were harmed by McCain Gang of 14, but when Thune DESTROYS the career of an excellent statesmen, who cares? Let's reward him with the second highest office in the country!
