SUNBLOCKHEADS AT THE STADIUM
NY Post ^ | July 22, 2008 | JEREMY OLSHAN and REBECCA ROSENBERG

Ladies and gentlemen, The Bronx is sunburning. Yankee fans are seeing - and turning - red over a ban on sunscreen, which Stadium security guards say was widely expanded in the last few weeks.

Security guards collected garbage bags full of sunblock at the entrances to Yankee Stadium over the sweltering weekend, when temps hit 96 degrees and the UV index reached a skin-scorching 9 out of 10 - a move team officials said was to protect the Stadium from terrorism.

But fans baking in the bleachers and upper deck argued that the sun may be a bigger threat than Osama bin Laden. "I was really pissed because, since I am Irish and I have a bald head, I need my sunblock," said Sean Gavin, 40, who had to toss his SPF 30 at the gate Saturday. "After they saw me dousing myself with it, it should have been obvious to them that it was sunblock and not some explosive."

The first fan with a sunburn should sue their asses off.

Why do I suspect that they’ll soon be selling sunscreen inside the stadium — at a huge markup.

And save your ticket stubs. I wouldn’t be shocked to see plaintiff’s attorneys offering free skin cancer screenings to ticket holders in a year or two.

Pretty soon, some season ticket holder will get skin cancer and sue them.

They should just put up a sign that says, “White people, especially redheads, NOT ALLOWED!!!”

They already do.

The Stadium does sell 1-ounce bottles of Arizona Sun SPF 15 for $5 - a huge markup that makes its beer seem cheap.

Just one more reason not to waste your hard-earned dollars on these overpaid players and their mega-bucks owners. Stop going to pro sports games and watch them all cry.

I'd exclude PGA tourneys from the list. Golf is the highest grosser re: charitable donations.

Those guys are good.

They don't allow umbrellas at Dolphins Stadium where it rains every other game but they will sell you a plastic poncho for $7.50

The sunblock ban wouldn't go down here, but NYC is so totalitarian that this story is not surprising in the least.

What's the rule on trans fats at the concession stands, Mayor I'll-choose-my-political-party-as-is-convenient?

Not so rigorous is my guess.

Don’t go to the frick’in games. Take up another sport. By the same token that won’t happen. The sheeple will still go & kiss their arses just as they will vote for one of the two idiots in the corrupt “Two-Party Cartel”. Things never change - except for the elites that shove more down these fans/taxpayers.

The shysters are way ahead of you. My wife and I were at the Giants / Brewers game in San Fran on Saturday. Beautiful sunny day. Sure enough, a vendor going up and down the stairs was selling microminiature tubes of sunblock for $5 each!! You can buy the very same retail tube at Longs for a buck and probably at wholesale for 30 cents.

It sounds like a racket to confiscate the tubes at the gate then make you fork over the payoff money once inside. Kind of like TSA stealing all your toiletries at the gate.
