Obama Shows Hawkish Side On Mideast Trip July 22, 2008 (CBS) This story was written by CBSNews.com political reporter Brian Montopoli. Not long after he touched down at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan on Saturday, Barack Obama posed for pictures with three American officials, a pair of military men in uniform, and one rather imposing statue of a bald eagle.
It was an ideal photo opportunity for a candidate looking to convince skeptics of his patriotism - just 37 percent of voters identified Obama as "very patriotic" in a recent CBS News/New York Times poll - and his toughness when it comes to foreign policy. And it was typical of the images that have come out of Obama's visit to the Middle East, a stream of television-friendly shots of the presumptive Democratic nominee chatting with troops and meeting with foreign leaders.
Obama has been careful to fortify these images with words: On Sunday, the Illinois senator urged the Bush administration to move more troops into Afghanistan as soon as possible during an appearance on "Face The Nation." He also reiterated his willingness to authorize unilateral U.S. action against terrorist targets in Pakistan's tribal areas if the Pakistani government will not act.
Obama's decision to travel to two war zones while highlighting his relatively hawkish rhetoric on Afghanistan and Pakistan reflects an attempt to deal with a problem faced by every Democratic presidential candidate since the Vietnam era:

Hawkish? HAWKISH?!?!?!
(Insert words that would get me banned here)
It did NOTHING to convince the critics. He slurred the military saying that the surge didn't deserve the credit.
It was the ideal photo opportunity for his scampaign to persuade the moderate voters that those pictures of him disrespecting the national anthem and the flap about the flag pin were "isolated" incidents.
Except here for this overseas trip, Obama's team repainted the plane to remove the American flag and replaced it with his campaign logo. Do other senators get to make such modifications when they travel abroad???
You really need to include the bylines in these. It was written by smug but wet-behind-the-ears Brian Montopoli, a nasty little piece of work straight out of the Columbia Journalism Review and totally unfamiliar with the term “objective.” Political analysis by dudes, dude.
Mission Accomplished. The Obamessiah has completed his 3 hour tour of duty.
Hey, can you write a song about Obama’s “3 hour tour of duty”? A three hour touur...
Guess that makes Obama "hawkish", according to cBS News.
I think what Obama said at todays presser speaks more to the truth about his actual position on Iraq.
"Asked Monday if he would have supported the surge knowing what he knows now, Obama said no."
What a crock of shit.
Posing for pictures means you’re a tough guy.
And it’s not “hawkish” to defend your country against people who attack it. It’s just common sense. Something CBS lacks.
LOL...CBS is incredibly clumsy, after all these years of slavishly pandering to every Democrat candidate, in trying to turn the boy with the big ears into a man who could be Commander-in-Chief. Only the Barry cult could believe this garbage.
Does that mean if I get my picture taken with the Queen of England then I'm the King?
It seems like with Obama, a 2 second picture wipes out a lifetime of hating America. Ok, I'm sold. /s
Now, get a picture of him outside a Catholic school and I'll completely forget all about that he attended a Madrassa....
Barry will say whatever it takes.....he stinks!
While the media is having wet dreams over Obama I can’t imagine this flip flopping socialist in the white house leading this nation! The thought is sickening to me....
Geez- a three hour tour...
That beats John Effin Kerry’s 3 month tour- where the clutz got 3 purple hearts for scratches, and also abandoned one of his men when he ran like a girl when shooting started, and also “committed atrocities”, and also killed a vietnames teanager by shooting him in the back...

When is he going to debate McCain? He said “anywhere, anytime”. He also said that he would meet with Iran’s nutjob “without preconditions”.
So why does he hold the GOP to a tougher standard than Iran?
He removed the American Flag from the tail of his plane and replaced it with a large ‘O’.
Some patriot!
