RALEIGH, N.C. The Republican candidate in North Carolina's 11th congressional district said Monday he is resuming his bid for office after a brief, self-imposed suspension of his campaign because of frustrations with his own party.
Carl Mumpower, an Asheville city councilman and psychologist, announced last week he was freezing his bid for the post currently held by Democratic Rep. Heath Shuler because he said he was frustrated with the Republican Party and its elected officials.
He said he would resume his bid once at least eight county GOP parties in the 15 counties that make up the western North Carolina district committed to what he called "core Republican Party principles."
"I believe that Republicans and conservatives have felt very betrayed by my party for several years," Mumpower said.
The pledge he asked GOP county boards to endorse outlined traditional conservative principles - including small government and conservative spending - and hold elected officials accountable to those values.
"What my goal is, is to send a message that ... we stand for something that people can count on," Mumpower said.

Be still my beatin' heart.... someone DOES still get it!
LOL! Correcto...refreshing to see someone in the GOP with cajones and a backbone!
Yes, but unfortunately his little hissy fit succeeded in making Heath Schuler look more stable. Quite a feat, that.
Gee, he’s requiring that of only 8 of 15 counties support smaller government. Better this than nothing I guess.
