Sioux Falls, SD -- Monday was the first day that Planned Parenthood, which operates the only abortion business in South Dakota, had to comply with a new state law telling women the truth about abortion. Rather than tell women abortion kills children and has numerous risks, Planned Parenthood closed its doors.
The state law, which the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld last week, required abortion practitioners to inform every woman that she is terminating the life of a human being.
It requires giving her information about the mental health complications such as a high risk of depression and suicide and physical problems like hemorrhage infection, premature births of subsequent pregnancies, and infertility.
The woman considering the abortion receives a chance to sign in writing that she received the information and abortion practitioners who don't comply face losing their medical license, two years in prison and a possible medical malpractice lawsuit.
Whether the closing is temporary or permanent remains to be seen.
Dr. Allen Unruh, a leading pro-life advocate who works with Alpha Pregnancy Center, told LifeNews.com that Monday was a historic day.
"Time will tell if Planned Parenthood plans to re-open its doors, but as for now, the regular abortions were canceled today as the abortionist refused to show up," he explained.
"We will see if any other abortionists plan to take the risks involved with full disclosure of what they do to women and their unborn children," he added.
South Dakota Attorney General Larry Long said last week the law would go into effect on Saturday following a decision earlier this month by a federal appeals court saying it's constitutional.
The Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the statute and, then, on Thursday, Planned Parenthoods application to enjoin the statute following the appeals court decision failed.
The measure specifically tells them to tell women "the abortion will terminate the life of a whole, separate, unique, living human being," defined as a human being. It also requires that the abortion practitioner give women the contact information of a local pregnancy center, as well other information about her health risks and pregnancy support available.
The federal appeals court cited the portion of the Supreme Court's recent Gonzales v. Carhart decision on partial-birth abortion referring to the post-abortion problems women experience.
The court indicated "some women come to regret their choice to abort the infant life they once created and sustained. Severe depression and loss of esteem can follow.
Murderers prefer to do their evil in darkness.
...and the downside to this is, what, more children don’t die?
When will some abortionist set up the state’s latest back alley abortion clinic?
Why it is even with legalized abortion some clinics operate illegally and even with legalized abortion some legally operating clinics still butcher the women and send them home to die? There are parents who discover their minor daughters bleeding to death and yet parental notification is still fought by this lone medical industry.
A step in the right direction. It's quite telling that these abortionists would rather quit, or move out of state, than tell the truth to their patients.
Interesting blog, thanks for linking it.
I pray for the day when this great republic will complete outlaw this holocaust of the unborn.
This is excellent news. I hope more states adopt such laws.
Let’s all keep pushing for all the pro-life laws we can, every state. Never give up, never ever give up, etc.
More likely the murders will be shifted to appointed rooms and dates at local motels. It happened in Mississippi decades ago.
The idea was that the states should regulate abortion no differently than any other medical procedure, or NOT AT ALL through the simple expedient of not requiring it be performed by folks licensed to be physicians.
So far no one has tried the NOT AT ALL option, nor will you find the ghoulies at Planned Parenthood embracing the idea.
Still, by exempting the practice from all laws and regulation and allowing just anyone to do it, it will be almost instantly eliminated in that state.
Some folks may not have read through Roe v. Wade criticall before ~ time to do so. See what it legalizes.
True...otoh, maybe they’ll, “set-up shop” on an RV....”carnage on wheels”
*************************************************
Why not ,, after all they set up shop on a ship to corrupt countries that didn’t allow abortion years ago...
Um, upon which ocean will these South Dakota ‘ships’ be placed? The RV notion fits ‘landships’ ... if you realize how roomy those things can be, especially with slide-out room extensions. You can even get washers and dryers on them, to ‘clean the linens’ don’tchaknow.
Exactly...not far to Wyoming or North Dakota
To Planned Parenthood, that's about as devastating and apocalyptic a downside it could conjure up.
Nobody has ever accused pro-aborts of being honest or ethically consistent.
