Michael Savage, the incendiary radio host who last week characterized nearly every autistic child as a brat who hasnt been told to cut the act out, said in a telephone interview Monday morning that he stood by his remarks and had no intention of apologizing to those advocates and parents who have called for his firing over the matter.
My main point remains true, Mr. Savage, whose radio audience ranks in size behind only those of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, said in an interview on Monday. It is an overdiagnosed medical condition. In my readings, there is no definitive medical diagnosis for autism.
On his program lastWednesday, Mr. Savage suggested that 99 percent of the cases of autism were a result of lax parenting. He told his audience: They dont have a father around to tell them, Dont act like a moron. Youll get nowhere in life. He added, Straighten up. Act like a man. Dont sit there crying and screaming, idiot.
Asked Monday if he actually believed that 99 out every 100 cases of autism was misdiagnosed, Mr. Savage conceded that figure was a little high. It was hyperbole, he said.
But he said he was proud to have prodded discussion on the subject, and planned to give over his entire show on Monday broadcast live from northern California from 3 to 6 p.m. Pacific time to parents and other callers who wished to disagree with him, and to educate him.

Nice use of logic there
Autism is a syndrome. We still don't know what causes it. It is and always has been diagnosed according to behavior patterns. All children in the spectrum exhibit these behaviors.
My son just appears a little nerdy to people who know him now. However, when no one is around he allows himself to express his compulsive behavior. We have called it his "skippidy doodahs" since he was little. He will get excited by something online, or on TV or simply in his head and he will start jumping up and down, making hissing sounds and flapping his hands. IQ is part of the difference in the different parts of the spectrum. My son has a high IQ so he is able to understand his condition and control it in public enough to get by as normal
How dare you? You don’t know anything about her child.
Maybe you should be willing to listen to other opinions besides the medical/pharmaceutical industry. They want to sell product.
I was not attacking you personally. You could be a drug salesman for all I know.
I'm expressing my opinion. It's up to you to tolerate opinions different from yours without getting emotional.
Sometimes you have to just ignore the lowbrow types on FR. They express opinions based on little or know actual knowledge of the subject matter, and they have opinions on everything
Genetic disorders aren't caused by absent dads or cured through living in a good home.
No, you’re expressing stupidity and more power to you if you want to do that, but I’ll correct you to point out that you don’t know what you are talking about.
You were the one that came back and said "I don't' believe you" when I said that yes, she did have an intact family, and that basically we did everytihng that parents should have done--partly because we were so poor, there was no money for refined products.
You are the one with the personal attack.
Can you give me a source that states ADHA is a genetic disorder?
FR should have a forum dedicated to naive and stupid with an ignorant caucus
I am speaking of Autism. Check my posts, I posted one in the last couple of days
Please provide a link for us all to see.
“Can you give me a source that states ADHA is a genetic disorder?”
Results 1 - 10 of about 2,080,000 for adhd genetic.
There’s no proof that autism is genetic.
This is why a good discussion of the issue never happens. Personal stories are not evidence and no one is allowed to disagree with a personal story.
You are a stranger on the internet who believes strongly in ADHA. I don’t believe in AHDA or autism. We can never come to a conclusion discussing your personal story because I have no idea who you are or what your motives are. I’m glad your child never took drugs - that is my issue.
I’m sorry I upset you.
bwa ha ha ha
If what you meant to say was "in many cases kids are over-diagnosed because of a lack of discipline in the home brought on by over worked single mothers" you might have gotten quite a few people to agree - including myself. I teach special education children and more than once have I come across a kid with this diagnosis who only needed structure mixed with love.
ADHD is very, very real, whether you believe it or not. However, treatment of ADHD is controversial and varies from one person to the next and one medication to the next.
Stop discussing me. If you don’t like what I post ignore it.
I believe: “ADHD = Absent Dad/Husband Disorder”
..and I disagree
