YES!
Where did he say that?
Many, many thanks for your very helpful reply.
On another thread called; THE STRATEGIC VULNERABILITIES OF OIL DEENDENCE currently active.
Thank you.
After trading friendly jabs with RightWhale for years, I suspect his tongue to be be firmly in his cheek with that statement.
Cheers
Coal gasification is a subsidy program for politically powerful coal interests. It has not produced much by way of results. On the other hand, far lesser subsidies or even tax breaks would make us independent in a few years if given to those who have developed disruptive oil technologies instead of the billions we’ve wasted on boondoggles and strictly marginal incremental improvements and technologies. It’s the old Washington story: why solve problems when you can subsidize them? There are better coal technologies we could pursue, but we do not appear to be pursuing them.
We have for over 30 years now pursued subsidies that breed bigger subsidies, while completely mucking up (government I mean) the technologies where the answer lies.
That is probably one of the best quotes here this year. Bumper sticker material.
I was listening to commentary on the gas debacle by a local San Diego Conservative talk show host, who mentioned the proposed tax free gas holiday offered by then Democratic front runner Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama (most likely used as a trick to get undecided voters). Well, in any case Congress rejected it quite handily, telling Americans instead to cut back and conserve.
Okay: So America does that, and of course that 18.4 cents the Feds charge for gasoline is suddenly starting to dwindle and the coffers are running dry. Now the same bunch of Democrat A$$ Clowns who lectured Americans about driving gas guzzling SUVs and light trucks are whining about the construction of new roads being threatened and want to raise the tax to make up for the loss in revenue.
...Whoever it was that said politics makes strange bedfellows must have seen these jerks coming a mile away. No pun intended, but your observation is right on the money.
Let’s take Iraq’s oil!
