NPR ^ | July 20 | Ron Elving

Posted on 07/20/2008 9:07:44 AM PDT by ConservativeMan55

Once upon a time, people who wanted to be president were not expected to admit it in public. This mask of false indifference had to be dropped when the rise of primaries forced candidates to campaign actively for the office.

You are always saying he wouldn’t be a good candidate.

Quote me.

[crickets]

But then you admit the poll shows he has a big following among liberals AND Conservatives.

Not me. Kennedy and the big government liberals love him. If the Romney poll is to be believed, some self-described conservatives allegedly voted for him rather than other liberals on the ballot.

"Romney's overall record as Governor is center-right. He's a great fiscal conservative."

No, Triple-E. He was not. You're talking about Mr. Socialized Medicine here.

See, I can deal with pragmatism, it is cheer leading I despise.

Like I said, outside I will tout the RNC ticket with at least some enthusiasm, enough to make a good appearance.

I wish we could get a “mulligan” on this election and just go straight to Haley in ‘12...

We are going to need him, or someone like him, and for better or worse, the nation will know it by then as well.

I’m always on my toes when debating Romney haters.

How do you do against folks who don't hate him, but just think he sucks?

What about folks who don't want to elect a cultist?

Got game for them too?

So you think he’s a good candidate then?

The poll says 55 percent of Very Conservative California voters voted for Mitt.

Do you really think McCain will select a northeast liberal like Romney?

I think he's a loose cannon and is entirely unpredictable.

There are about 400,000 black Mormons in the world today

How many in Utah?

I have some in my congregation, but I won’t ask them. That seems very rude.

Not As rude as telling them they wont be going to heaven just because they are black...

And that if they do happen to squeeze into heaven, they will only be “servant” there...

Actually the answer is...not very many...

you write that Romney is a ‘very positve, forward-looking person’

How is that a non-sequitur? You said Romney doesn't bring in any excitement to the ticket but he does. Top Republicans are all behind Romney for VP. Conservatives are too. He brings an enthusiasm to the campaign in contrast to McCain's dour bloodhound look. That's simply a fact.

Tell you what, if Romney can’t even out-poll a stiff like Mike Huckabee

Huckabee attracted social conservatives. He did not attract the other two legs of the Reagan stool. That's the thing. Huckabee doesn't have broad conservative support. All he had was the religious right. He was a firewall for McCain, which locked Romney out of the primary. I'm sorry if you clearly do not see this.

And then you focus on Jindal’s ‘experience’, without even understanding a far more significant point, which is drawing focus to the immigrant/minority issues.

Since when did conservatives care about affirmative action? Jindal is not qualified to be VP. He is only 36 years old, he only served 3 years in Congress and he was just elected LA Governor.

Jindal personifies how it should be done

Like how he handled the pay raise thingy?

openly appreciates this country, and undermines Obama and his darling wife’s whiny, negative portrayal of America.

That's all fine and heart-string tugging, but he still doesn't have experience to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency.

That's what it boils down to, and more of you are finally admitting it. Our own FR wonder boy fieldmarshaldj had finally admitted he thinks Mitt is the Anti Christ.

Ain't life predictable?

4 out of 5 dentist recommend Trident to their patients who chew gum, but 50 percent of them really don't want them chewing gum to begin with, the remainder like the billing it generates...

So what is your point
