Romney moves up as Potential McCain VP
NPR ^ | July 20 | Ron Elving

Once upon a time, people who wanted to be president were not expected to admit it in public. This mask of false indifference had to be dropped when the rise of primaries forced candidates to campaign actively for the office.

New Hampshire, Michigan, and Florida? :D

South Carolina 35% (majority) for Huckabee
(The only reliable Conservative state voting before Romney dropped out.)

Tennessee right after = 38% of all Conservatives Huckabee and even higher for the verys

Romney might have dropped out, but even Thompson beat him in the more reliable Red states and he had also. You know, states where someone identifying themself as a Conservative does not usually mean a Country Club Liberal Republican that thinks they are a Conservative simply because they are not Democrats.

Oddly enough, even in Virgina, weeks later, McCain still could not get the Conservative vote.

Intelligent and knowledgeable. An outstanding conservative and an excellent choice for McCain's running mate.

“Mitt is much more Conservative than McCain.”

Switch to drinking coffee and lay of the purple KoolAid..

“Mitt wants to close the borders.”

The illegal aliens should have “a pathway to citizenship” and “we cant sent them home” Mitt Romney about the AMNESTY Bill....

“Mitt is pro life.”

Mitt Romney has been pushing abortion relentlessly since 1970....

“Mitt is pro-gun.”

Mitt Romney never owed a gun, never carried a gun to war, got at least 2 deferments so he would not be drafted, and spoke against the NRA and the 2nd Amendment....

“Mitt is a whiz on the economy and drilling.”

Witness the BIG DIG fiasco, that Mitt Romney could have stopped or changed...

“He knows what to do to get us out of this mess.”

Knowing something and having the guts to do are two different things....

“Mitt will bring swing states like Michigan, Minnesota and many others.”

The numbers dont back that up...

“Mitt is a brilliant debater.”

Mitt Romney was nervous and unenthused during the debates..

“Mitt has always been against McCain-Feingold.”

Mitt Romney has never had to vote on McCain-Feingold. The jury is still out on that one...

“Mitt is supported by Tom Tancredo and many other Conservatives.”

Tom Tancredo ??? Did he have credibility with you ??? Talk show hosts ???? And just during the primaries ??? Duncan Hunter never endorsed him... FRed Thompson never supported him... President George Bush never supported him.. Tennessee Nana never supported him...How about today, July 20, 2008 ??? Which conservatives are supporting Mitt Romney for VPOTUS ????

Hillary couldn't have said it any better than Romney.

And I don’t mind a McCain/Romney ticket.

Obama would hate it, and it would force him to spend heavy cash to defend one or two states that he would need to defend, and I not talking a Mass.
That is more hopeless than the big dig which is costing more than 50 TIMES the original amount.

Not that this bothers the brain dead zombies there.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I don't approve of it, it is just what they are doing. Good times tend to take focus off of politics for the masses. They remember at some point they called themselves a Conservative without paying attention to the fact that those politicians claiming the title have changed, moderated. To them it is all reasonable, because they are not focused on politics enough to notice.

That is why a Romney or a McCain can slip in, they see a face, it has an R after it, they pull a leaver and leave telling the pollster they are “Very Conservative”. They have not abandoned the ideals, just not realized the definition has changed right in front of them because Soccer practice is in 10 minutes, we have money in the bank, credit cards in the wallet and a Plasma TV on the wall. They have not purposefully become moderates or liberals, it just has slunk in past them, unnoticed, and into their politics. To them in the brief moments they pay attention, it seems perfectly natural. It is sad, and it will change once the sh*t hit the fan and the bill comes due for the past 20 years. Then they will wake up and "Oh Hell, what happened?" and then look for Reagan's heir. Sad we have to do it all over again.

And I think RM you know better than to say I am OK with Mitt, after all I am one of the chief bashers, don't you know that?....

So where do I start? In response to my claim that Romney ‘brings no excitement, interest, or value to McCain’s ticket’, you write that Romney is a ‘very positve, forward-looking person’. A nonsequitur response to be sure, but beyond that, I’m not looking for Tony Robbins in the White House, I’m looking for a principled, firm leader.

You complain about Huckabee taking votes from Romney? Tell you what, if Romney can’t even out-poll a stiff like Mike Huckabee, don’t try to tell me he’s a popular and viable candidate.

And then you focus on Jindal’s ‘experience’, without even understanding a far more significant point, which is drawing focus to the immigrant/minority issues. Jindal personifies how it should be done, openly appreciates this country, and undermines Obama and his darling wife’s whiny, negative portrayal of America. Not to mention that Jindal can actually talk, a skill that has been lacking among Republican spokesmen for the past 20 years since Reagan. What a bunch of verbally and conceptually-challenged clowns we have running out there.

South Carolina 35% (majority) for Huckabee (The only reliable Conservative state voting before Romney dropped out.)

I've given you actual numbers from six disparate States, five of which are battleground states in the general election. You you go on about South Carolina, which is representative of...um, er, South Carolina.

Georgia is a reliable conservative state, which voted on Super Tuesday, before Romney dropped out, and Romney did very well there among conservatives. Get your facts straight.

Romney might have dropped out, but even Thompson beat him in the more reliable Red states and he had also.

Just what were these more reliable Red states in which Thompson beat Romney?

Exactly!

But some people hate Romney so much they are willing to damage the country and the Republican party.

They also claimed that Thompson made a big impact and is the reason McCain is the VP.

I don’t think Thompson made an impact on anything.

He just kind of got in.. said “I’m running” and then got out.

He really didn’t have any fire in the belly.

While he is salivating, he would lose Michigan.

with Romney, he will need to play defense and spend big to do it.

Mitt can take care of himself vis a vie obama, and that is more than can be reliably said for McCain.

Romney has said he started opposing abortion rights in November 2004 after a conversation with a stem-cell researcher made him feel the value of human live had been diminished.

Hard to find this far down the road. What we saw at the time was an interview with one of the stem-cell researchers, the presenter, who denied Romney asked the questions he said he asked (backed up by others present.)

If you look at what “changed his mind,” it was that a fetus (8 days old) would be destroyed. How is that supposed to change his mind when he was all for the same fetus to be destroyed at an even later date?

His actions did not change to follow his words either, but that is another topic.

Hahahaha. You think that is gonna leave a mark? You are cracking me up.

Mormon populations in Africa is exploding, with 46 stakes (about 450 congregations if the numbers are representative of US stakes) and 41 districts, including 2 temples.

Perhaps, just to add insult to injury, Mitt should put Gladys Knight on his cabinet. LOL

He is a consistent conservative in many ways, but his nay votes on war funding and his recent comments on the war leave me a bit shocked.
