Why McCain Must Win

President McCain in 2000 I must be one of the few conservative writers in cyberspace who never feared a McCain presidency. When Senator McCain looked like he might win the Republican nomination in 2000, I asked what, exactly, my friends were so worried about. McCain was honest, like Bush, while Clinton and Gore were steeped in moral slipperiness. McCain was pro-life, like Bush, while Clinton and Gore were pro-abortion. McCain, like Bush, supported a strong military, while Clinton famously “loathed” the military and Gore followed him like a trained poodle. McCain’s ACU (American Conservative Union) voting record is conservative and was even more conservative in 2000. Who did I favor for the nomination in 2000? Bush, because I liked him more and I thought he would win, but was I afraid of a McCain presidency? No, I was afraid that the nation could not survive a third Clinton term. Has anything happened in the last eight years to change my mind? Not, not really. September 11, 2001 has driven all politics since then, even energy (remember how recently gasoline was cheap?) and while I can conceive of McCain handling the war on terror differently, in some ways, than Bush, I cannot see either man being particularly better than the other. Although we are sometimes loath to admit it, McCain appeared more prescience than Bush on Iraq: McCain supported the Surge, asked for the Surge when Bush was reluctant, and McCain was dead right. The Left would have vilified President McCain just as it vilified President Bush and for the same reasons: It wants America to lose all its wars.

Sounds like you’re hoping for a revolutionary war (stuff you don’t want to explain) type fantasy if obama wins. Oh well.

I don’t particularly think this stuff is funny, but I guess you think wanting obama to win is a good idea.

Well I hit the nail on the head then, otherwise you’d speak up. Pretty cowardly to not even answer though.

No.

Pardon me? Look at what I wrote again. I was responding to Norman's post about 2007 ratings only.

One can easily look at the past 10 years of ACU ratings and see that McCain has been about 65% conservative in his votes. Before that, McCain was about 85% conservative.

I don't dispute that.

That is the track record. If you don't want to vote for McCain, fine, but you shouldn't try to rationalize that non McCain vote. That's all.

Again... I was responding to a specific post by Norman and pointed out that he hadn't shown up for 60% of the votes. Norman disputed that. He was wrong. End of story.

Both Obama and McCain will give us open borders. The only difference is a McCain presidency will be the end of the conservative movement.

Ah...back to name calling I see. Isn't it past your bedtime?

So you think you got the right answer because otherwise I'd speak up eh? Golly gee Beave! You must be a freakin psychologist! :-) If you are, then you'll know that you're using grade school, playground logic. :-)

One of your problems is that you think you want to know things that you really don't want to know, or aren't prepared to know. This is often the case with people who have never harbored information which is of great consequence. If you were other than one of these people, you wouldn't press me.

In truth, for me not to answer is wisdom. You simply lack the insight and knowlege to know this. No logical conclusion can be drawn by my refusal to tell you something which you want to know. Why do care as much? You should just forget about it. It wouldn't change anything for you anyway.

The answer is still no.

I don’t wish to turn the presidency over to the Left, that’s why I can vote for neither McCain nor Obama.

It’s too bad you won’t share this magical way to avoid the destruction coming from an obama presidency. Kinda selfish don’t you think?

You and I almost certainly perceive this situation similarly. :-) I agree with you!

I noticed on your FR page that you are very pro-gun.

Obama is for gun control and he, with the help of the Dem Congress will stuff the courts, including SCOTUS, with leftist activist judges, who will most likely reverse the recent 2nd Amendment ruling. Are you sure you are going to be proud to have helped Obama win the presidency, when they come and take your guns away?

Even though I never said anything of the sort...yeah...it is selfish.

Do you know what selfish is? Selfish is the way that I get when my best buddy goes in for major surgery a few weeks ago and we're worried that he might come out a cripple.

Selfish is the way that I am with my wife, my daughter, and several other loved ones in my family and circle of close friends.

Selfish is looking back on 7 years sacrificed to homeschooling 3 children and knowing I wouldn't trade what I have in them for ANYTHING now...in spite of the fact that we lost a lot of money and took a lot of criticism from people for being homeschoolers.

Selfish is how I executed my oath of office during the 13 years that I was an active duty military member in the service of our country, both in the United States and abroad even to preserve the rights of jackasses who will vote for the RINO John McCain as well as the aberation Barrack Obama.

...and finally, selfish is how I feel when a mean stray dog meanders into my back yard when we're grilling chicken and sausages and thinks he deserves one simply because I have them. We raised the chicken, and the pork. We put in the time, and effort of butchering them, and are finally enjoying the results of why we live on a small farm and make certain sacrifices that most people simply don't understand. But the mean dog doesn't think he's a mean dog. He just thinks he wants something I've got. He understands nothing of what went into it...right up until the time that I put a .223 round through his shoulders from one of my sons AR-15s.

I won't be replying to you after this.

Oh really?! Did you also notice that I'm from Texas?!

I'm about "this far" from just telling you to STFU. I'm not quite there yet, but you're twisting is really grating my nerves. But hey! It isn't all about me now is it?! You might think it's all about YOU, but I can assure you that I'm just not that important!

Let me make something perfectly clear to you. This nation is at a turning point. We are all in most likelihood witnessing the destruction and disassembly of the Republic, and this process was accelerated on OUR watch!

What in the hell do you want from me? I'm not proud of much that happens in this nation politically lately, what makes you think I'll be proud of anything after November 2008!? Will you be proud of yourself?...because the GOP told you that you were a good boy and voted the way you were supposed to? Soon after that, the people responsible for voting in whichever miserable cretin is chosen won't be proud either!

...take my guns away... :-) That's funny! Can't you do any better than that?! I'll bet you can! Oh yes! They're going to come and take my wife, and my kids, and they're going to shoot my dog, and then burn my house down, and cut me up with a dull butter knife if I don't vote for Juan McPain! :-)

You're a fear-monger. Off with you now....shoo...shoo...go away. ;-)

Seriously dude...take this up with somebody else. At this point, we're just wasting space on Jim Rob's server.

I have no clue as to what you’re talking about with all that, as it doesn’t have anything to do with your super secret squirrel method of surviving an obama presidency unphased.

Anyway, go root for obama to beat McCain all you want. People did it against Bush in 92 with Perot, and history shows what happens in those cases.

Conservatives who will not vote for McCain are well-intentioned utopians.

There is no Utopian vision involved at all. Political Conservatives are just calling them as we see them, and we have the track record to prove that we are closer to the pulse of America than others may be inclined to believe. Conservatives here correctly predicted the fall of Bush Sr., the fall of Dole, the losses in 2006, the revolt against amnesty, and o on, despite our counterparts' remonstrations and 'cajoling' on this board and others.

There is one person who can prevent this unhappy future — John McCain.

No, there is one person who most certainly cannot prevent this future- John McCain. If there is a single persn on this planet that the party will never fall in line behind, it would be John McCain.

However noble their intentions, conservatives who do not vote for John McCain will be morally complicit in what happens to America during an Obama presidency.”

Exactly wrong. The opposite holds true. Any who would support a candidate that well over half of the party has to be dragged by the nose in order get them to pull the lever, is asking precisely for that which they will (not) receive.

Far, far better to demand a candidate worthy of the post, and capable of drawing together the heart of the party, in order to rise up once again against a formidable Marxist foe...

But then, that and the war is what y'all are hoping is going to get you to the bank with your socialist friend McCain... But I am telling you now, that dog ain't gonna hunt.
