GENEVA - The United States said on Saturday after inconclusive international talks with Iran's nuclear envoy that Tehran must choose between cooperation or confrontation and give up sensitive nuclear work.
"We hope the Iranian people understand that their leaders need to make a choice between cooperation, which would bring benefits to all, and confrontation, which can only lead to further isolation," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said in a statement after the talks.

Does no one suspicion that this is a “pre-move” to possible eminent action on Iran by Israel/US?
i.e., we and the other countries can say we gave them one last chance to stand down. They refused.
Coming up - a whole new line of glassware?
What a surprise.
“Everyone is castrating Pres. Bush for sending envoy to the conclave in Iran”
Yeah, Freepers don’t always get it right and attack en masse, wrong as they may be. I’ve done it myself lol.
But this was obviously a stark and dire “one last warning” before the military option is used by Isreal or the US and Israel. That is exactly what the envoy was all about. It shows our allies that we are taking all possible steps not to use military action.
Pres. Bush has always said he would not let Iran get a nuclear bomb. Some people, including Iran, don’t seem to believe he means what he says.
[one last chance]
BINGO.
Just after 9/11 Bush proclaimed to the world, “You are with us or you are with the terrorists.” That was 7 years ago and Iran has been complicit in killing US soldiers in Iraq for a number of years since. Demonstrably, Bush’s word is questionable but acting too late or not at all is not an option for ours and Israel’s survival.
Ok, I guess you missed the interview with Condi also. Ms. Rice tried to set the record straight, this was not a negotiation, it was a one time deal, and more or less an ultimatum. The media has represented it as negotiation because they want Bush to look bad. What else is new. Because of the clarification(given by Ms. Rice on Thursday I think it was and posted on FR)I believe as you do, this is a set up for an Israeli attack after which we can say, "See we gave it our best shot but Iran refused to co-operate! MO, and I am sticking to it until proven wrong(which happens quite frequently but I am still sticking to this one).
“Some people, including Iran, dont seem to believe he means what he says.”
I’ve grown to believe that he will not follow through on this.
I sure hope I am wrong.
A nuclear armed Iran is simply unacceptable. They will be able to blackmail the whole middle east, and by extension, the whole world.
We either face the problem now or face one thousands of times worse within the next five years.
Rice didn’t spin anything. This was a one shot delivery of an ultimatum I.E.: will you stop your nuclear proliferation. They expected the answer they got and said so. This is clearly a set up for Israel to carry out an attack, and they will. It hasn’t been that long since that took out a nuke plant has it?
Let hope you are right. I can’t imagine Bush taking on Iran with only months left in office. If he was going to he would have already.

I always said that President Bush would deal with the “Axis of Evil” during his administration. Iraq was dealt with militarily and North Korea was dealt with politically. That leaves Iran and the political solution appears at a dead end so that leaves a military solution. Bush has said Iran will never have nuclear capability. A joint US/Israeli strike appears likely.
