How Big Are Those Bundles?-Barack Obama's failure to practice what he legislates
Washington Post ^ | June 18, 2008 | Washington Post editorial staff

Recently, prodded by a letter from campaign finance reform groups, and after the New York Times pointed out that the Obama campaign had not updated its bundler list for months, the Web site added a flotilla of names, along with each bundler's city and state. However, the Web site does not provide the bundlers' occupations or employers, although those should be readily available to the campaign from the bundlers' individual contributions.

What's a "bundler", anyway, and when did that word come into common use when referencing political campaigns? I see it all the time now, and I have little idea what it means.

A bundler is an intermediary, who gathers contributions from a number of people—maybe in his workplace or social circle—and forwards them to a candidate.

This could be legitimate, or it could be just a way to disguise the real source of the funds and get around the limitations on donations.

Thus, someone could pretend to raise money from a bunch of dishwashers in Chinatown, disguising the fact that it really came from the Chinese Communist government—as clinton did.

Oh... in other words, a bagman.

Thanks for clarifying!

The Washington Post Editorial Page has really been getting on Obama’s case recently.

They also have a new Editor from the Wall Street Journal, who, if not a conservative, may even be moderate politically.

Yes. This article is even-handed, blaming Obama and McCain equally, which is remarkable in itself for the ComPost.

But the headline and the lead paragraph attack Obama, not McCain, and that’s all that many readers will see. Obama takes the heat, and is shown up as a hypocrite who legislates one way and behaves another.

Any malfeasance in the Obama capaign fund raising better be blown wide open BEFORE the election.

The clintons have been getting away with it for years and never get punished. If it isn’t revealed ahead of the election it won’t matter at all. The worst that would happen would be a fine.
