Omaha, NE - Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel's Vice-Presidential stock has jumped again.
Hagel's move up the ladder comes as he sets off for a Mid-East road trip with Barack Obama.
According to CBS News Hagel is now third in the Obama Veepstakes, behind Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius and Indiana Senator Evan Bayh. A week ago Hagel was fourth.
All this comes as several sources tell Action 3 News that Hagel's been snubbing the Nebraska's Republican Party.
Last week-end at the annual GOP State Convention in La Vista, Hagel was a no-show.
State Chairman Mark Quandahl says Hagel did not make a personal appearance, did not have a surrogate or substitute speaker, and didn't send a letter.
A spokesman for Hagel tells me two of Hagel's staff members were there.
All this of course as Hagel's name continues to make noise with the Obama campaign.
During his money making stop in Nebraska a few days ago, John McCain had plenty to say about his old friend Chuck Hagel, but not all of it was good such as Hagel's opposition to the war.
As McCain put it, "Senator Hagel is wrong."
As for Hagel's no show at the State convention Quandahl, tells Action 3 News, "It is what it is."
Quandahl also says that two months ago the Nebraska GOP told Hagel they wanted to honor him at the convention, but Hagel said he wouldn't be able to make it.
That was two months ago, about the same time Hagel's Democratic vice-presidential star began rising.
one can only hope for up chuck
Chuck Barry? Johnny be good and pick a conservative running mate.
Hagel is a bagel and a bagel’s got a hole....
Hagel rhymes with bagel but the Hagel lost his soul!
Isn’t Hegel a conservative on most issues, especially social issues, and abortion in particular? Has he abandoned all of this? If he hasn’t, how will he ever get past the Dem delegates?
My money is on Gephardt as Obama’s VP choice.
Hagel is a turd. Like the many control freaks that run Congress he wants to remain relevant, and will compromise any integrity he had, if he had any in the first place.
Exactly. No way in hell is Bambi going to pick a pro-life politician for the ticket.
Gephardt is only a couple years younger than McCain. The RATS wouldn't be able to use the age issue if they run with him.
Kerry probably would have won if he had picked Gephardt but I think the man's time has come and gone.
There is a deep isolationist streak in the upper midwest, based more on religion than ideology. They may sometimes align with the left but they are definitely separate from them. Like McCain said, Hagel is just wrong on the war.
With that in mind, Hagel is probably one of the people that I would most like to sit down with, with a bottle of bourbon, and debate America's strategic interests.
If I'm not mistaken this was due to a large influx of settlers from Germany and Austria, who generally were opposed to the militarism in those countries at that time. On top of that the first major war America was in after they became citizens was WWI, which led to widespread anti-German feelings, which they naturally did not much care for.
It is too late for a strong 3rd party, either Obama or McCain will be the next president. I will never vote for Obama and will probably vote for the only effective non-Obama, since there are no good Republicans running.
Please take Hagel, and while you are at it, there are several more RINOs you can have.
BTW, How you doing over there? I heard there was a 6.6 North of you in the Fukushima area.
Alas, you are but one vote. SAME WITH ME. WE WILL CANCEL EACH OTHER OUT.
ROTFLMCFAO!!!!!
Um, no.
We can only vote for a group of fellow Americans who comprise a group of "electors" who will then represent our vote and cast it for their pledged man in the Electoral College.
If you had four hotel conference rooms of each of those electors assembled, again, our fellow Americans, and I were to then be able to walk into each room one-by-one, first the "Obama Room", then the "McCain Room", then the "Barr Room" and then the "Baldwin Room", I can tell you, as far as AmericanInTokyo is concerned, if it were as simple has having a beer for thirty minutes in each room and talking issues heart to heart that are important to me (North Korea, Illegal Aliens, Social Decay, Taxes, No-Win Wars, Abortion, Japan Trade, etc) I know I would have more in common with my fellow Americans in those final two rooms that I would in those first two rooms.
So you know where my vote will not go.
My only pledge here on FR is that in November, I am going to be honest with myself and I am not going to lie, but I will cast a vote which best represents my value systems, morals, philosophy and true heart, so that later it shows up on the tally board. Whether it joins 100,000 others, or 1,000,000 others, or 10,000,000 others, is insignificant, in the larger scheme of things and what I will have to answer for in the next life: Honesty.
Others are perfectly welcome to join me. I know I will be able to sleep with myself at night and will know I have done my part and had my say.
Hagel is retarded. The rats won’t accept a “repuke”. He should buddied up to McCain if he wanted VP. A year from now Hagel will be another nobody former senator.
