To: kellynla; I still care
The lab school is the best HS in Chicago. Far superior than Ignatius or Chicago Latin.

I may be in the minority here, but if the Catholic schools can't survive on their own, they nevertheless should not become wards of the state through "vouchers."

Charter schools, single sex education, and a focus on discipline and learning basic skills are what is needed in most public schools. Of course, your average idiot will tell you that THEIR public schools are great, although test scores will say otherwise.

Ideally, public schools, ie WELFARE schools, would be abolished for all but the very poor, but this is never going to happen.

Being a “cradle Catholic” who attended Catholic schools for fourteen years, I know we didn’t receive any funds from the government and DID NOT WANT ANY FUNDS FROM THE GOVERNMENT for obvious reasons.

So I don’t know exactly where Bill Donohue & the Catholic League is coming from on this issue.

Catholic schools have operated since their inception without government funding.
