The Democratic National Committee is asking America to weigh in on its party platform, and this week kicks off more than 1,300 meetings to hear from voters across the country on the big question: What should Democrats stand for - and against?
If the idea sounds politically challenging, or even risky - think Rush Limbaugh and his dittoheads weighing in - San Francisco attorney Michael Yaki, who heads the party's platform committee, says not to worry.
In fact, he's even invited Limbaugh and his dittoheads to come on down and take part in the meetings that will happen around the country July 19-27.
"I'm excited," said Yaki, a former San Francisco supervisor and a current U.S. Civil Rights commissioner. "We're having meetings in all 50 states, in a number of cities. ... We're hoping that people in rural areas, in the farm belt and in other places will get together. ... I think that's fine. Americans shouldn't be strangers to each other."
Yaki, who practices in both San Francisco and Washington, D.C., says he's not afraid of the political heat that the meetings might spark. He was, after all, a supervisor in San Francisco for six years - ...
"The reason I volunteered to do this is very simple," Yaki said in a recent telephone interview from Washington. "I think that Barack Obama represents the best hope for this country. I believe that his message of change and hope and inclusion has struck a chord with the American people that hasn't been seen in a long time.
"So I thought about what I could do - and it's clear that the platform would be one area where I know more than a little about: It involves policy and politics."

Be constructive, Please! and NO 'WE Need Hope and/or Change' PLease.
Shouldn’t the dems be the ones driving reforms in entitlement programs instead of allowing them to continue to runamuck? It would seem like the logical thing to do for a party so concerned about everyone’s condition... but we are talking dems, here.

Drilling offshore and anwr would be nice too. going all in to transfer to alternative energies nationally much less globally can not sustain an economy except at high expense in the transition off of fossil fuels.
They are against morality, Christianity or the Constitution of the United States.
Those who stand for nothing will fall for anything.
Their convention is next month and they're still trying to figure out what they are for or against? Why does that not surprise me?
Errrrr... correct me if I am wrong but you Bozos are supposted to stand for the U.S. Constitution!
they would be the ‘soliciting’ party then?

They can always roll the 2004 platform out.. oddly enough, that platform included using more coal albeit cleaner coal in the future.. probably have to change that piece, they’re all for alternative 10 to 20 year away techonology

We the democratic party believe we as a government are more efficient than private party or free markets. We will regulate, set prices and have full employment and can just print more money when we have cost overruns. We dont believe in evil and can talk and reason out against those that dont like us until they do like us. We will allow women the right to have abortions and also will protect the frozen tundra from the evil oil men. When we outlaw firearms, no crime will happen. When we get all the other countries to lie down their nuclear arms, we will all join hands and sing cumbyaaa. We have a dream where we protect all living creatures. We will tax big companies like the auto industry and the airlines because they are carbon emitters. We will outlaw drive thru restuarants because the idling cars cause pollution. We will instill the fairness doctrine so that our side gets heard. Anyone who wants to go to college will get in free, even undocumented workers. We will allow open borders because it feels good. We will live off organic gardens grown from the rooftops of our city buildings. Our wind turbine energy plants will have environmentally low frequency modulation to deter any migratory birds from the rotating blades. There will no longer be any endangered species as they will be allowed to reproduce at will and we will not allow fishing or hunting as it is barbarian. We will discover the cure for AIDS and other disease by government funding. We will fill the Supreme court with judges who dont have that evil right wing ideology. We will ban soda and potatoes and fast food restuarants. All kids will have a perfect education as we know the reason kids dont learn is because lack of funding. blah blah blah I could go on, but you get the point
“they’re still trying to figure out what they are for or against?”
They’re for being elected and against being out of office.
