WASHINGTON, DC - Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), Ranking Member of the Environment and Public Works Committee, today introduced the Drive America on Natural Gas Act to promote the use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) vehicles. Inhofe also introduced the American Affordable Fuels Act to relieve pain at the pump.

"As Americans continue to suffer from high gas prices, we need to take advantage of our abundant domestic supply of natural gas for use as a transportation fuel," Senator Inhofe said. "The Drive America on Natural Gas Act adds flexibility to the current Renewable Fuels Standard mandates by adding natural gas. It encourages the use of a ...

Idiots. What happens to the price of natural gas for electrical power generation and for home heating now ?

They skyrocket, and it costs me $800 a month to heat my house instead of $220.

I am against using NG as a motor fuel.

Why are the folks in Congress so allergic to gasoline? Can’t do anything their environmental masters don’t like?

Congress is utterly useless and no longer represents the American public.

“we switch power generation to Nuclear.”

That’ll never happen. Our “environmentalist” masters would never allow it. They’re saving the World, doncha know?

We don't produce enough Natural Gas meet our current demands. How will changing from Oil imported from OPEC to Natural Gas imported from Russia and Qatar be a great improvement?

ABSOLUTELY!

Consuming PORTABLE forms of energy (petroleum, natural gas) in STATIONARY power generation applications is NUTS!

PEBBLE BED NUKES — AND LOTS OF THEM!!!!

“What happens to the price of natural gas for electrical power generation and for home heating now”

There is really no downside to this. We have a LOT of natural gas in this country and the technology is already there to burn it in automobiles. The best part is that we don’t HAVE to buy it from the ragheads.

I expect Sen. Inhofe is in favor of increasing domestic production of oil and nat gas. I am in favor of reducing our energy dependence on our enemies and financing their attacks on us.

I am in favor as well. But the areas kept drilling effect oil as well as natural gas production. The problem isn’t going to be fixed by switching from one import to another; it will be fixed by drilling.

Inhofe is an ass:

While crashes involving gasoline leaks sometimes cause fires, crashes involving the far more volatile CNG or LPG are almost guaranteed to do so.

Idiot!

Did I read somewhere that the ban on offshore oil drilling also included a ban on natural gas exploration in those same areas? Sounds likely since the Dems are opposed to any form of viable energy.

The bans are on all drilling, not just crude oil but natural gas. They are the same leases.

I bet Inhofe has been talkin’ to the fine folks at

Chesapeake Energy,,,

Think Haynesville Shale,,,

This has been reported as the largest gas strike in the US

and the 4th largest in the world!...;0)

I think natural gas is a mistake. As a fuel, it’s less polluting, and at the moment we have more of it.

But we will never convert enough cars to make it significant, if we did we’d not have enough gas to go around, and natural gas itself is not the ultimate goal for transportation — electric is.

So it would be a waste to encourage some intermediate solution that requires a separate infrastructure.

The same is true of hydrogen. It’s absurd to spend time and effort putting together a hydrogen infrastructure. We won’t be fueling our cars with hydrogen gas in 20 years, so why do it now.

The key is electric-powered cars. We can then provide the electricity in MANY ways — fuel cells (hydrogen, biomass, even gasoline); generators that run on gasoline, natural gas, diesel; batteries; ultra-capacitors; and maybe even nuclear or bio-electric generation.

The resistance to electric is partly driven by the fact that you can fuel your car at home, which puts service stations out of business. FOrtunately, you can easily build “service stations” to provide electricity, since we have electricity everywhere.

"Inhofe Introduces Drive America on Natural Gas Act"

"Idiots. What happens to the price of natural gas for electrical power generation and for home heating now ? "

"Why are the folks in Congress so allergic to gasoline?"

"Inhofe, cut the gov red tape and drill for oil. Only nonsense lives in Washington."

Whoa ... this is not an environmentalist's dream and is actually (a) something we should favor, and (b) a good idea for other reasons.

To wit:

* Natural gas is far cleaner than any other combustible fuel.

* Natural gas is actually far more abundant than we realize. Production has been held up by the same laws that held up drilling for oil. Where you find oil, you usually find natural gas (the converse in not necessarily true).

* There was a recent find of natural gas in North Dakota, and the energy content exceed's Saudi Arabia's oil reserves. There's far more gas than oil.

* The industry has long known that "deep gas" (I think over a mile underground) is extremely plentiful and fairly easy to recover. Again, most of it is offshore (lots in the Gulf of Mexico).

* Natural gas doesn't need to be refined. Easier to get to the pump, also.

* Natural gas cars would run on basically the same combustion engine as petroleum fuel. Meaning, no sacrifice of performance.

* And many, many more reasons.

Don't critize Senator Imhofe. He's one of the good guys. And if you asked most oil industry executives, they would agree with this wholeheartedly.

Those receiving electricity from NG powered stations are getting huge bills. My house heating bill is huge for a tiny house when it used to be cheap. Increasing demand for NG is only going to make that worse. I will be in a worse situation if my heating bill doubles again. No thanks. If I had the money, I would toss the NG furnace I have and go electric.
