PARIS (AFP) - The OECD favours a moratorium on expanding biofuel production, a senior official with the Paris-based body said on Wednesday following the release of a report critical of vegetable-based fuels.

"It would make a lot of sense to have a moratorium," Stefan Tangermann, head of agriculture and trade analysis at the OECD told AFP...

For pete’s sake. US restaurants produce 3 billion gallons of used cooking oil and chicken fat every year. Companies like SafeRenewables convert it to biodiesel that is used in electrical generation all over the country, especially in Texas. What else is used chicken fat good for and how does using it hurt other processes?

Agreed...the way I read it was that they were referring to ethanol based products such as corn. Did I read that wrong?

Won’t be a moratorium. Excellent report on alcohol fuel on Coast last night.

The farmers in this area are already rallying and ranting and raving about how important corn based ethanol is for us as a nation to survive. I always looked at it like propaganda, of course the farmers love it, They’re planting corn like crazy, and the bean crops are far and few between, so look for anything soybean related to go up in prices in proportion to corn products. The farmers aren’t going to let this golden goose called ethanol go away easily, they’re looking at a nice fat piece of steak, and people are trying to steal that steak of their plates!! I hear sugar based ethanol may actually be the best and safest way to go. So the word sugar is going to become a bad word in the farming communities!!
