Pope Benedict XVI waves on board the Sydney 2000 ship on the way to the Bangaroo East Darling Harbour in Sydney on July 17 for a meeting with pilgrims. Benedict XVI on Thursday delivered a stinging attack on pop culture, consumerism and "false idols" to 150,000 mainly teenaged Catholic pilgrims gathered in Australia for World Youth Day. I was in the Colorado Symphony Chorus in 1993 when Pope John Paul II came to Denver, and performed on stage while he was only 50 feet away. Definitely the closest I’ve ever been to a world leader! It was in interesting experience.

**Half a million people fill Sydney to greet Pope Benedict XVI**
Hopefully, no exaggeration here!

**Emphatically, the Pope called on pilgrims not to leave God on the sidelines. **
This is a message for all mankind, not just for youth.
