Blunt: BLM Decision on NPR-A Good News for Americans, Bad News for Democrats
PRNewswire-USNewswire ^ | July 16, 2008 | Roy Blunt

Todays announcement from BLM should serve to remind Democratic leaders that NPR-A is already open for energy production, is already in the process of being leased for energy development, and has otherwise been explored for more than a generation.

Democrats brought forth their Use It or Lose It bill without knowing it was already the law of the land...

todays announcement is good news for the American people -- and bad news for Democratic leaders who worked furiously to prevent these lease sales from going forward ...

Unfortunately, very little happening this week in Washington will get us any closer to that important goal -- such as the effort to deny a natural gas terminal to the residents of Massachusetts...

I have been hammering Roy’s office on this stuff for months...he’s coming around.

IF the Republicans could get their acts together, this issue could break the Dimmorats this fall.

Thanks geo. Less than four months to go, got to build this issue step by step, and on the foreign policy side, the threat posed by Iran and supposedly resurgent Taliban in the Stans.

The release does not do a good job of explaining the issue. The GOP is going to have to do better than this to get its message out. But at least it’s a start.

From The Alaska BLM Web page:

“South National Petroleum Reserve - Alaska (NPR-A)

The Bureau of Land Management in Alaska is discontinuing preparation of the Integrated Activity Plan and Environmental Impact Statement for the South portion of the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska (NPR-A). The South area contains about 9.2 million acres.

The BLM places great emphasis on public participation during land use planning and has listened carefully to the concerns of the people of Alaska’s North Slope. In consideration of these concerns and the practicality of energy development, the BLM is discontinuing the South NPR-A planning effort at this time.

Within the BLM’s community scoping meetings and the North Slope Borough’s community based planning report, the public expressed a high level of concern regarding potential impacts of oil and gas activity on subsistence resources, especially the Western Arctic Caribou Herd. The herd’s primary calving area is within the South NPR-A planning area.

BLM resource assessments indicate that the South NPR-A planning area contains limited oil reserves—approximately 2.1 percent of the undiscovered oil in NPR-A.

Although the area contains an estimated 27 percent of the NPR-A’s undiscovered gas reserves, there is no transportation system to move the gas to market.”

Not in the South, but OK in the North!
We’ll take it....

Yes, “If”. They have not done so for over 20 years, now would be a good time to start.

I watched the whole debate on the floor of the HR last night via. CSPAN. Most all the demowits said was pure hyperbole and mostly simply horse droppings. Each one would get up and repeat the same dry party line they are instructed to say.
The the Republicans would counter over an over again that most of the 25 pilot drills and old seismic studies indicate there simply is not the easy to get at oil some would have one believe. And the point was made there is no oil/gas pipeline grids in place, so in essence the oil companies would have to spend a lot of money to construct these within the NPR. So if one could even find easy large quantities to extract, one cannot distribute the stuff down to the lower 48 refineries. The dopes would again have the floor and repeat like parrots, the same crap how Bush has screwed things up and that the oil companies where sitting on all kind of oil. The Repubs again would try to reason, that many of the leases simply filled the Feds with lots of money for the leases that proved not to be worth spending money on attempts at finding oil.
It went back and forth until finally moron Pelosi had the final say as how terrible GWB is, and of course she just repeated as most of them did, false and misleading information.
It was a total wasted 1:20 hour of time, but I felt obligated to see it through. At least I did not barf all over my monitor while viewing her stupid face in those last ten minutes.
