Romney Makes His VP Case

Posted by Michael Scherer | Comments (41) | Permalink | Trackbacks (0) | Email This

On Monday night, at a fund-raiser in New Mexico, John McCain said this about his former mortal enemy, Mitt Romney: “I’m appreciative every time I see Mitt on television on my behalf. He does a better job for me than he did for himself as a matter of fact.” This may not have been a joke.

Yesterday, Romney sat down for an interview with CBS News. It is a striking interview, in part because Romney seems to be making the McCain argument better than McCain, or McCain's campaign. There is a clarity to the soundbites that McCain has mostly lacked, a clear line of attack against Obama's experience and McCain's plans. Add to that whatever fundraising burst Romney could provide as a VP candidate, as well as Romney's strength in key swing states like Michigan and Nevada, and it's not hard to see why McCain may end up with a running mate whose hand he didn't shake in the primaries.

[See video at link]

EXCEPT: Mitt says in the interview that McCain distinguishes himself from Obama on drilling in the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge. This is wrong, according to the latest McCain statements. Both McCain and Obama oppose drilling in ANWR.

LOL! You are constitutionally incapable of answering a direct question, aren’t you? Can’t/won’t present facts about Romney or yourself. Yeah, you’re a real reliable source.

I answered your question. Don’t blame me if you don’t like it.

Besides, didn’t you just write you were “done with me” ? Looks like you can’t quit me, baby. ;-D

So, the Willardian peanut gallery is back, eh? I guess Romney really does want the VP slot if all of his moronic paid shills are back in action.

Well, tell the same to Ann Coulter who said she won't vote for McCain unless he picks Romney.

You didn't answer my question. What have you done for conservatism since your disillusioning stint with Romney in 1994?

Once in a great while, there are posters on this board who I come to believe are Liberals pretending to be conservatives here to agitate and stir up trouble, cause dissension among conservatives and lead them in the wrong direction. You're one of those rare posters. I don't believe you're a conservative at all.

Most Liberals well understand that Romney would strengthen McCain's candidacy (they also realize he had the best shot of defeating Obama as the Republican nominee), and therefore they don't want to see McCain pick Romney. Again, that's YOU.

"Well, tell the same to Ann Coulter who said she won't vote for McCain unless he picks Romney."

I will. She is no Conservative. She embarrassed herself beginning last year becoming a lead shill for one of the worst RINO liberal ex-Governors in the country. So she won't vote for McCain if he doesn't put that liberal on the ticket ? Cry me a river.

I'm still waiting for you to answer my question. What have you done for the conservative movement since your disillusioning stint in 1994?

“As a *omneybot, you are a liberal”

That smear of yours has been debunked already. In my case, lifelong Reagan unhyphenated conservative Republican, been on FR 10 years, but had a signup updated in 2000, I am in an elected GOP party position of small note. Unlike you, I have enough realism to know that none of our candidates are the Messiah nor the devil. I am no candidates “bot”. Your overwrought slams on Romney are just like the Bush-hating liberals going after Bush, blaming him for everything from the weather to the existence of skin disease. If anything, you are the ‘bot, caught in a web of excessive zealous hatred for a politician who would actually be a good President.

“you keep having your butt handed to you.”

Nope. Your body parts are flying around and you’re getting confused. Thanks to the discussion on MA’s political history, your slander against Romney on destroying a MA GOP that’s been a distinct minority for decades was crushed, at least for anyone with an open mind on the matter.

“Haven’t you had enough yet ? I squash you with my pinky finger.”

Reaganesque was right! This *is* that scene from “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”!
Legless, armless knight: “Where are you going? Coward! Come and fight!”

Your arguments are good ones.

I fear a consumption tax because it gives to much power to the Federal Government to control the market place. If they want to punish an industry, they can raise taxes. I could be wrong about that.

Therefore, I like a ten percent (total for federal, state and local) flat tax. But yes the government would still be privy to personal information that is really none of their business. No I know you are aware the income tax was supposed to be temporary. The very notion is laughable in retrospect.

My position regarding the flat tax is not as strong as many of my other conservative positions. It may be an opinion I might change as I learn more. : )

Thank God indeed. He’s thrown about 95% of the conservative movement under the bus with his insane attacks.

You, me, Tom Tancredo, Ann Coulter, National Review, Sen Jim DeMint, Gov Matt Blunt, ACU President David Keene, are all in this together... it’s a conspiracy I tell ya!

“Do you understand the difference between minority party with viability vs. dead party with NO viability ?”

Claiming that the MA GOP has less viability now than they did 10 or 20 years shows a lack of perspective, balance, faith and foresight. How do you know they wont elect a Republican Governor after the failed Deval Patrick term?

When will you admit you’ve been smearing Romney all along?

Are you hard of hearing ? What do you call a person who falls for a liberal, shills for a liberal, and lies for a liberal ?

A liberal.

Ann jumped the shark as soon as she climbed into bed with the Slick one.
