Romney Makes His VP Case

Posted by Michael Scherer | Comments (41) | Permalink | Trackbacks (0) | Email This

On Monday night, at a fund-raiser in New Mexico, John McCain said this about his former mortal enemy, Mitt Romney: “I’m appreciative every time I see Mitt on television on my behalf. He does a better job for me than he did for himself as a matter of fact.” This may not have been a joke.

Yesterday, Romney sat down for an interview with CBS News. It is a striking interview, in part because Romney seems to be making the McCain argument better than McCain, or McCain's campaign. There is a clarity to the soundbites that McCain has mostly lacked, a clear line of attack against Obama's experience and McCain's plans. Add to that whatever fundraising burst Romney could provide as a VP candidate, as well as Romney's strength in key swing states like Michigan and Nevada, and it's not hard to see why McCain may end up with a running mate whose hand he didn't shake in the primaries.

[See video at link]

EXCEPT: Mitt says in the interview that McCain distinguishes himself from Obama on drilling in the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge. This is wrong, according to the latest McCain statements. Both McCain and Obama oppose drilling in ANWR.

Yep, and she said with such a straight face as if she was there in the 1964 convention witnessing all this fictional story.

Rome, how many times do we have to have this conversation? The GOP gave women the right to vote. Why are you a member of the GOP then? This lady here owns land as well, acres of it. This lady here also voted for Ronald Reagan twice. Post to me that I should not have the right to vote.

You're welcome should be wearing thin and you are probably unaware of it. People on FR are tactful. Don't confuse that with “respect”.

I feel no need to respond to your silliness.

Sanford/Conservative haters post the same YouTube crapola from CNN (!) as 100% proof that he is perpetually discredited, yet you tout a PROVEN liar, coward, liberal fraud as QUALIFIED ? Have you seriously lost your mind, kid ?

We’ve been screwed for awhile. The conservative movement left some time ago. Partial-Birth abortion and the war on terror is what’s on the plate, the alternative is not an option. At the speed of information these days, if Obama gets 4 years it will seem like 20.

I never claimed to have any power over him. I said we share the same viewpoint on *omney. If you have a problem with that, you can take it straight to the big guy and let him know what you think about it.

Go Flip Go---AWAY.

Romney is a plague and a jinx. He adds nothing to McCain but funding and all the funding in the world and then some couldn't convince conservatives that Mr. RomneyCare isn't a crpyto-lib.

The fact that he's so obviously auditioning for the VP slot is disgraceful.

Adding a failed Massachusetts liberal to the ticket who left the GOP in MA a shambles is no way to beat the Democrats.

Yes.

About as dopey as claiming that Mitt Romney paid

Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Ann Coulter, Mark Levin, Hugh Hewitt, Judge Robert Bork, William F Buckley, the head of the American Conservative Union, Tom Tancredo.. and many others.

They’re claming Romney paid all of them to support him...

Hmmmmm

I showed him that video in post 107 and he didn’t acknowledge it lol.

Whoops, I missed your post. I went looking for a video of Sanford speaking, and that horrible video was the second one I looked at.

Where was Rush when Fred needed his strong support in his favor ? We could’ve stopped McCain and the other midgets dead in their tracks. I can only conclude they really didn’t want a Conservative as President. Fact is, most of those talking heads benefit from having their ideological opponents in office. Obama will make them even more $$ than ever before... that is until the “fairness doctrine” (sic) shuts them down.

Haha it’s cool.

Yeah it was a scary video more than anything.

We can’t have somebody like that going out and representing us.

Libs will use it against us.

Do not put words into my mouth. I never said those traits were important to me. But for many voters they are. Look back to Kennedy-Nixon.

Fact is John Sidney McCain is a far left liberal and Obama is also. Both want amnesty. McCain is also loony tunes. A VP candidate will not make much difference unless he or she is a really bad choice.

I do not care whether you hate McCain or anyone else.
