Romney Makes His VP Case

Posted by Michael Scherer | Comments (41) | Permalink | Trackbacks (0) | Email This

On Monday night, at a fund-raiser in New Mexico, John McCain said this about his former mortal enemy, Mitt Romney: “I’m appreciative every time I see Mitt on television on my behalf. He does a better job for me than he did for himself as a matter of fact.” This may not have been a joke.

Yesterday, Romney sat down for an interview with CBS News. It is a striking interview, in part because Romney seems to be making the McCain argument better than McCain, or McCain's campaign. There is a clarity to the soundbites that McCain has mostly lacked, a clear line of attack against Obama's experience and McCain's plans. Add to that whatever fundraising burst Romney could provide as a VP candidate, as well as Romney's strength in key swing states like Michigan and Nevada, and it's not hard to see why McCain may end up with a running mate whose hand he didn't shake in the primaries.

[See video at link]

EXCEPT: Mitt says in the interview that McCain distinguishes himself from Obama on drilling in the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge. This is wrong, according to the latest McCain statements. Both McCain and Obama oppose drilling in ANWR.

Her comment made no sense, but then neither do the sycophants. Hard to understand trolls endorsing liberalism.

Of course, I’ve been here longer than you two. It’s readily apparent the *omneytrolls have lowered the civility level of FR for quite some time. It’s why I urged JimRob and the Mods to show them the door. They’re not interested in rational discussion or facts, just personal attacks and vile insults.

I just did a quick review about George Romney. He ran for President in 1968 and not in 1964 when Goldwater was the candidate.

Nana, I told you are making up stuff and I was right.

Oh, *omneyesque, my old friend. Where you been ? A little late to the party. ;-)

I’m voting for John McCain and I’ve yet to see this so-called power you have over JimRob.

$$ talks. You know how that goes. It’s amazing how cheap some weak-willed so-called “Conservatives” will sell out for.

True, but we need somebody in there when Juan buys the farm. If Slick Willard is running the show, this party, this movement, and this nation are f**ked. He’ll just pave the way for Obama in ‘12, just like he paved the way for Deval Patrick in ‘06. Slick Willard sure does love his Stalinists.

While I respect your opinions about what you feel Romney is all about, the fact that you consider those named in my post as questionable talking heads says volumes about who you are & what you REALLY stand for. You're not a conservative, you're a Romney hater, a one trick pony, IMHO

I suspect the Internet research you allude to is probably along the lines of the KOS, Huffington Post, Mass. Resistance, et al. The Internet can be a great tool for some, not for all. I feel for ya bro. You've been exposed for who you are. Not an enviable position. Have a good night.

Reaganesque, you aren't really very bright.

MYTH is a con artist just like his "Prophet" Joseph Smith.

This guy walks around the planet for 58 years supporting abortion and then 3 years ago when he figures he can fool enough of the people enough of the time he decides to call himself a conservative and sort of decides he is pro life.

Thats OK though because he "Looks Presidential".

The Founding Fathers did not give the vote to the landless, women, and those under 21.

It took 4 amendments to the Constitution, but their wisdom and foresight is undone, their advice unheeded, and the Republic they founded about to be lost.

MYTH ROMNEY IS SOCIALISM LIGHT.

OBAMA is a MARXIST.

I will not vote for either.

We can have our differences, our opposing opinions, and sometimes we shout and get angry at each others. All is fine in a political forum. The problem is when someone just makes up stuff, lies, comes up with crazy conspiracy theories, spreads stupid and false rumors then the forum would certainly lose its credibility. This has been happening to Free Republic much more in the last two years.

Aw, man. It was a hoot back 6 months ago. The *omneybots called me a shill for Huckster and the Hucksterbots called me a shill for *omney ! Naah, I’m just an advocate for (gasp !) a Conservative nominee. When Fred and Duncan left, it was all over. We had giants we ended up with midgets. It’s just like a Fellini movie with a good dose of “The Twilight Zone” thrown in for good measure. Never did I think we’d end up with one of the most reviled RINO members of the Senate, well past his prime as the standard bearer and delusional folks talking up the worst liberal RINO Governor of the past 10 years as serious Presidential/VP contenders. Absolutely insane.

Mitt brings top knowledge of the economy to the ticket.
He brings a well deserved boost to McCains campaign.
He's a proven leader. He saved the olympic games.
He's pro life. He's VERY Conservative on the border. Just ask Tom Tancredo. He supports Mitt Romney.
