Poll Finds Obama’s Run Isn’t Closing Divide on Race
New York Times ^ | July 16, 2008 | ADAM NAGOURNEY and MEGAN THEE

Americans are sharply divided by race heading into the first election in which an African-American will be a major-party presidential nominee, with blacks and whites holding vastly different views of Senator Barack Obama, the state of race relations and how black Americans are treated by society, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll.

The results of the poll, conducted against the backdrop of a campaign in which race has been a constant if not always overt issue, suggested that Mr. Obama’s candidacy, while generating high levels of enthusiasm among black voters, is not seen by them as evidence of significant improvement in race relations.

Hmmm...Barack Hussein Obama must be polling REALLY badly - I didn't expect the MSM to start whining about all the "racist Americans" until well into October.

“Poll Finds Obama’s Run Isn’t Closing Divide on Race”

Why would it?

The true racists, Obama’s campaign and supporters, the LeftMedia and Obama himself are all trying to leverage the “first black president” angle.

Obama isn’t an American, he is a black American, and therein lies a VERY deep-seated problem in America today.

Americans are sharply divided by race ....with blacks and whites holding vastly different views of Senator Barack Obama,

Nonsense. Without tens of millions of white liberal votes B-HO wouldn't stand a chance. ...and he has those votes.

Note well: this was among BLACKS. Of course, the whole problem will always be that liberals can endlessly confuse correlation with causation and raise no end of ruckus, even if B Hussein wins.

This is truly the stupidest political season of my lifetime and I’m now 54, so I’ve seen a few stupid campaign seasons.

For me, this year seems to combine the worst of 1968 and 1972, iced with 1992 (looks like) chocolate.

It’s the Democrats who drop the race card anytime any criticism of Obama comes up-what th’ heck did they expect? The Democrats position seems to be that if you won’t vote for Obama because he’s black, you’re a racist.

What is interesting is that only 40% of blacks think McCain would favor whites. 40% is a lot, but I would have thought it would be higher (especially with BHO running).

And Michelle Obama only has a 58% approval even among blacks? Interesting.

I have to say I am surprised BHO is so far ahead with latinos

Which poll says who’s ahead of whom in this Looney-Tune Race? How long can BHO keep this sham going?

No one is going to bridge any racial divides, certainly not BHO. Many whites view him as an "affirmative action" candidate, fairly or not, and this is exacerbated by liberals citing his color as the best thing about his candidacy.

There is a very good chance Obama's candidacy or presidency will exacerbate racial divisions, for lots of reasons.

Race relations hasn’t a damn thing to do with running this country! When will people wake up? What does a candidate believe in? How do you believe this country should be run? Which candidate is most closely associated with how you think? I’m going to vote for Obama because he’s the first black to run for president?....Very naive and stupid!

I think it’s true that blacks and whites have vastly different views on Obama. I think blacks are much more realistic about who or what Obama really is. He is one of them. White liberals think he is some kind of savior, sent by the Earth Mother to save the environment from George Bush, the Oil Companies, and the Evil Republicans.

Personally I think that BHO’s campaign has set race relations in the U.S. back for many years and created divides that have not existed for at least a generation or two. But then I am just a typical white person.

Imagine that, since this election has naught to do with race for for any outside the african population. This election is about competence, defending american citizens, pursueing killers trained to mass murder civilians, and reining in government control of every facet of individual life. The muslim candidate fails on every important aspect and has no allegiance to this country—Hussein is not on the side of the average American.

Please, it's only going to make it worse. Have you seen the talent lineup for the Dem convention?

Among the big-name performers likely to make a splash in the Mile High City are hip-hop king Kanye West, reggae/hip-hop artist Wyclef Jean and the rap/rock fusion band N.E.R.D.

LOL! Kanye West is the guy who said that George Bush hates black people during a Katrina telethon. He's a loose cannon. I'm praying he'll make a fool of himself that night. But where's the racial diversity? Is this really what represents Americas now? Hmm?

Boy, this is an easy one to answer. Blacks are going to vote for Osama simply because he is black. No other reason but that.

True enough. Within the lib ranks views of B-HO do indeed differ.

Gee, maybe that’s because HE has made race such an issue and not policy.

Blacks are voting for him simply because he’s black and a democrat... but white folks aren’t so collectively inclined, so its all whitey’s fault. Not the fact that Fauxbama is an empty suited fraud who has done and said nothing of consequence in his life.

Most important finding in the poll: "More than 80 percent of black voters said they had a favorable opinion of Mr. Obama; about 30 percent of white voters said they had a favorable opinion of him."

If Bambi is only viewed favorably by 30% of the white voters in the country, he isn't winning anything. Either these results are bogus, or Barack is looking at a landslide defeat come November.
