Governor Deval Patrick has scheduled a picnic fund-raiser this month at his vacation estate in the Berkshires, where he will once again exploit a method he pioneered for skirting state campaign contribution limits, a funding system the Legislature so far has declined to shut down. Guests at the gathering at the 7,500-square-foot mansion situated on 77 acres in Richmond are being asked to contribute up to $5,500 to the governor's Seventy-First Fund. The fund - as the formal invitation to the soiree explains - divides the contributions between Patrick's campaign and the state Democratic Party

How did the republic get to this point? We have a ruling elite that makes laws for the common herd, and feels that it is not subject to the laws. An elite that doesn’t care about the wishes of the public.

I'm assuming this is the same "picnic" that so far has been reported as being for the Legislature. Surely he wouldn't be giving two??? Howie did wonder why he was doing this for the legislature after the end of the season-- uh, session, when they couldn't do any more for him . . . .
God, I hate this state! Makes me glad I'm getting old . . .
In MA,the Legislature is never truely out of session until it “perogues”. Which they never do.
Each of them needs their own personal helicopters to match their pensions.
Same here. We're remodeling our house, and hope to put it on the market later this year, or early next year. Prices are starting to come back up in our area, so we're planning to take advantage of that and move back South!
