A vulnerable man cut off his own head with a chainsaw after being ordered to move out of his home to make way for developers, police believe.
David Phyalls severed head was found beside the power tool inside his housing association flat shortly after receiving his eviction notice.
Detectives were today investigating the possibility that the 58-year-old killed himself rather than leave his home of eight years.

So sad, if he hadn’t lost his head he might have been able to work something out with the developers.

That’s quite a feat. They should embalm his head and display it outside the local Stihl dealership.

I wonder if he shot himself in the back of the head a few times before he fired up the chainsaw?

Proves that the Brits are better at writing mystery novels a la Conan Doyle or Agatha Christie than actually solving real life cases. Clearly the man had mental issues completely unrelated to his domicile status.

An inquest is now being carried out into the exact cause of death and what had happened to Mr Phyall, described as vulnerable, beforehand.I am not medical examiner, but I play one on Free Republic. The cause of death is 'complete transaction of the neck' and a 'chainsaw wound to the neck'.

Some folks just dont want to leave their home. Sad story. May he rest in peace.
Yup, government evictions is the real story, not the peculiar mode of suicide.

The second worst pain was when tx_eggman and I were hunting in N. Oregon, and I dropped trou and squatted to do what a bear does in the woods... and my testicles tickled a fox trap that had been hidden there in the leaves...

upset guy and chain saw
To: DocRock
There was a scene in the recent TV remake of “The Andromeda Strain” where one of the stricken characters buzzes his own head off with a chain saw in one quick motion. How much truth there is to that one can only guess, because chain saws aren’t terribly light, but in some cases the blade is long enough to be able to reach your own neck without too much effort. And if it can make short work of a small-diameter tree... well, you can guess the rest.
I’m wondering if he maybe placed it on a table while it was running, leaned over and let gravity do the rest.

About 20 years ago in Phoenix a guy did something similar with a circular saw in a pawnshop; I don’t think he actually cut his head off, but he did not survive the adventure.

How does one cut ones own head off with a chain saw? It takes a will of iron; maybe even of Stihl.

HOLY SHITE! Sorry for your loss. Don’t know what I would do if me and the boys parted ways. I’ve become kinda attached over the years.
So, the worst pain in the world is?
