American blacks look to Obama as savior from enemy within
AFP via Yahoo ^ | July 14, 2008 | Kerry Sheridan

Nurney Mason opened his barbershop in 1961, and since then he has witnessed a lifetime of changes outside his window on H Street in the US capital. Now he hopes Barack Obama can deliver even more. "I think he's it," says Mason, describing Obama's bid to become the first black US president as "something ordained from above." "He says he is going to bring about a change. Everyone knows it's time. It's the right time."

Hussein is in the process of changing his change and hoping people won’t notice. The only constant is that if given the opportunity, he and the ‘Rat Congress, will leave the taxpayer with only change in their pockets.

A Gallup poll last month suggested Obama enjoys 86 percent support among African-Americans.

Obama is in real trouble if he can't do better than John Kerry did with black voters.

Like I said, the black electorate are the ultimate sheeple. They cannot see the forest for the trees.

Residents struggle with everything from broken glass on the sidewalks

If you are bothered by anything on the sidewalk, take the necessary safety measures, pick it up and dispose of it.

Anyone who votes for this no experience socialist is abdicating one of his or her civic responsibilties. Obama is the most unqualified democrat ever to run for president. There is nothing but thin air under this man. All of his past radical associations are to be forgotten. He is so arrogant, he thinks he can simply walk away from having to explain anything. Of course he is aided in this quest by the biased radical left media who are trying to sell him to main stream America. A vote for Obama is a vote for chaos....I hope America wakes up.

He is saying black fathers should step up to the plate

Funny, I've been saying this my entire life, and I just get labled a racist cracker when I say it. Blacks want better lives for thier kids, here's the deal.. black women, keep your legs crossed and don't give a black man the time of day if he isn't willing to marry you, get educated, get a decent job and raise his kids.

If you can't find a black man that's willing to do that, then you date someone who is, regardless of their skin color.

Stop blaming Whitey, stop claiming "thuggery" is a culture, and stop making excuses and make changes.

agreed, if he’s only got 85ish percent of the black vote he’s doing worse than any white democrat in my lifetime.

"Obama, he is not arrogant at all. He wants to help the lower class people,"

How is raising taxes, bankrupting the country and gutting our defenses going to help the 'lower class people'?

What a maroon.

...the first black US president...

We've already had our 1st black president; WJC, remember?

BHO is not 'black'; he is of mixed races if I'm not mistaken. It ticks me off when he is called 'black'. He simply is not.

homes that are unaffordable

Bullshite....it may not be the home you want though. Everyone can't have a MacMansion yet....

"I'm one of those victims," says Brown, 36, a single mother

a victim of her and her stallion's own doing....not the government, nor mine, nor my family, nor whites in general unless the Stud was a peckerwood. ...she is a victim of her own poor decision making.

i am in favor of some charity to make sure her children are not hungry and well clothed and a basic education too but that will take her doing more than my tax dollars......and not in the hands of school board commisars.

what a veritable mess....what percentage of black culture is like this? probably 80% in DC at least.....less in Bismark or Boise maybe?

stupid white folks and the black morass make a fat vote pool for the Black Kingfish.

ironically at least for this board is that the Mexican invaders will probably deliver us from Obama.

damn, what a trip our FUBAR culture has become....a heady stew of completely non complimentary ingredients all vying for the gravy ladle

It is inherently racist to vote for a presidential candidate solely on the color of his/her skin.

Dr. King asked us all to vote on the content of his/her character. Based on that, Dr. King could not honestly vote for Barack Obama.

Did you ever hear Dr. King say, “What I said last night was inartful...”? Did you ever hear Dr. King say, “People who do not agree with me have not been listening.”? Did you ever hear Dr. King say, “I might have chosen my words a little better.”?

Senator, we knew Dr. King. Dr. King was a friend of ours...and Senator, you’re no Dr. King.

One more thing, to the gentleman in the barber shop (who, by the way has cut my hair on several occassions), there is no “lower class” in America. If you believe that there is, that may be the first and most serious problem with what is keeping you and the folks in your neighborhood down. Second, hasn’t the time come for black people to stop worshipping “super icons”, making them rich and getting nowhere for themselves? Super icons are a distraction. Shut off Oprah. Turn off the Lakers. Turn down Tupac and crack the books. Decide what you want. Ask for help if you need it. Then go and get it for yourself instead of vesting your hopes in someone else. It’s all out there and has been waiting for you for at least as long as Barack Obama and Oprah Winfrey have been taking advantage of it...it’s called opportunity and it’s there for you just like it is for whites, asians and hispanics. Build the world you want to build and use your God given critical judgement to make sound decisions based on a person’s character...not his/her color.

“Upstairs from the barbershop at the Sophizticated Ladyz Hair Salon, owner Charlene Brown nods as she recalls Obama’s speech about absent fathers. “I’m one of those victims,” says Brown, 36,.... “ Yes, we’re all “victims”.

Yeah, it wasn't her fault she screwed the guy and got pregnant, with all the birth control available today why would any woman get pregnant if she didn't desire it? Supidity?

Here is personal experience. I dated a black woman a few years ago, she lived in Sacramento and had made a pretty good career for herself, had a masters in business, did it on her own, was doing great and still is from what I hear altho now she has MS, she is still fighting and making money, not taking any handouts.

Her sister(s)(I use the plural however her sisters come from different fathers and mothers, some are sister to her but not to some of her other sisters)all have children that they don't know who the "baby daddy" is. They are all on welfare and they curse the white man(except me of course I was "different")for their troubles, not the bas**** that got them that way and ran off, not their stupidity in not using birth control, but whitey caused their problems.

Like their mothers before them, they have children with different fathers, all the children on welfare, fathers ran off or are in jail. This is the blacks enemy and it has nothing to do with whitey, it has everything to do with Jesse Jackson and his ilk, all the so called black leaders of the community and the Democrat party. This is first hand info, lived it for 4 years until I couldn't take it any more, because as intelligent as my girlfriend was she still bought into the lies and made excuses for her sisters. I finally gave up and broke it off, much to my regret but it had to be done.

Invoking Dr. King is not necessarily tantamount to ordaining him an aggregate hero amongst conservatives. I like to think of heroes in terms of ven diagrams. On the black side there is Frederick Douglas, Martin King, Abraham Lincoln, John Kennedy, Malcolm X etc. On the white side there is Franklin Roosevelt, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, John Kennedy, Martin King, Ronald Reagan, etc. When invoking Dr. King, I do so because he is the nearest black modern hero in the overlapping subset. Thereby allowing us a bit of common ground (though it is noted that each individual’s hero set will be different). It is by no means a blanket acceptance of every phrase uttered by Dr. King. Nothing is that (forgive the allusion) black and white.

However, Dr. King did say those things and to a near plurality of black people in America, they ring with all the truth of biblical passage. By utilizing Dr. King’s words, we are able to provide a recognizable standard that is near universally accepted amongst blacks and take that standard as an expectation of elevated thought. This is the true aim of invoking Dr. King. All of your illustrations are also taken on the merit and understood.
