It's easy for opponents to ascribe motives to Sen. John McCain's decision to address the annual convention of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People on Wednesday in Cincinnati.
John McCain's campaign stop has everything to do with political tactics and nothing to do with genuinely reaching out to voters, said Alex Goepfert, spokesman for the Ohio Democratic Party.
Another high-ranking Democrat, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that appearing before a predominantly black audience from which the Republican presidential candidate has a scant chance of getting votes is designed to earn McCain points with moderate white voters.
McCain dismissed such conjecture: I know why I'm going, he told The Dispatch last week. I'm going to tell them that I will be president of all the people.
McCain said it is important for him to go to places where there may not be a lot of Republican votes, and he rejected notions that black voters can't be swayed because of Democratic Sen. Barack Obama, soon to be the first black presidential nominee, in the race.
When you look at the education needs and small-business needs of minorities, including Hispanics and African-Americans, that's more important for them than perhaps any other voters. I'm not going to raise their taxes; Sen. Obama will.

LOL!!! Good luck with that.
It’s smart.
On the other hand, Barack is afraid to face Army audience.
Just goes to show you: damned if you do and damned if you don’t. The NAACP doesn’t represent black people, rather the egos of those running the organization. President Bush said no thanks, got bashed. McCain says ok, gets bashed.
“McCain will make his pitch to NAACP”
Wow. LULAC, “The Race” and now the NAACP. When does he speak with the KKK?
This could be good if he took the opportunity of telling the truth about the damage the liberal welfare state has done to the black community...what am I saying! We are talking about McCain, Reagan would have done that but not McCain...ugh.
John, they are not going to vote for you. Why wast your time. Oh, I forgot. Its the politically correct thing to do.
After McCain makes Robert Byrd his final VP choice.
It’s smart to do. McCain can further prove he is not like Pres. Bush which he is trying to do. The NAACP is irrelevant to most black people though.
Not a bad thing that GOP candidates go before such leftist leaning groups. It’s a chance to teach and expound on conservative principles even if it results in few being changed. Like plantings seeds-—although with McCain he may be pandering too much instead of being The Teacher like Reagan was.
Waste of time.
Their minds are made up, have been made up for decades, and as long as cowardly, apologetic, white-guilt laden Leftist thinking is the most predominant and accessible perspective in the US, will continue to be made up well into the future.
In the words of Obama: Typical.
I applaud the effort, although it won’t amount to anything.
If we could only get him to meet with conservatives.
To what end? Unless he can change the color of his skin it makes as much sense as Obummer showing up at a KKK meeting to beg for votes....jeez what stupidity.
McCain may not have much hope garnering the majority of the black vote. On a personal level, I know at least 3 black voters who will be voting for McCain, but they are conservative and don’t buy into the NAACP/victim mentality.
My point, though, was the damned if you do and damned if you don’t with the NAACP. If McCain had turned down the offer, the story would have been about that.
Obummers been trying that (kinda) and bro jessie wants his gonads mounted for it. Ill bet they take it better from an old white guy. lol
I’m glad he is at least making an effort I’ll give him that much, it may be futile, anything he says that is the least bit controversial will be campaign fodder, if he gives a flat speech, no one will care...
I would suggest that he read Daniel 6-16-22...the lions den..
He should also make a pitch to the Black Republicans and similar groups. We should admire and respect the minorities that have the guts, intelligence and love for conservative values while facing hostilities from their own ethnic groups for standing on solid principles.
I will do right for AMERICANS... period.
Osama won’t even go to a military base.
