No Ice Cream, Senator?
New York Times ^ | July 13, 2008 | Maureen Dowd

Posted on 07/12/2008 9:52:09 PM PDT by Amelia

Barack Obama may make it to the Rose Garden, but he’ll still be an orchid. For all his attempts to act like a sturdy American perennial, he’s a genuine hothouse flower, and everything he is and does is cultivated...

...Whether Obama was irritated that he had slipped up and exposed his daughters or was annoyed that his kids were exposing more delicious details about his finicky, abstemious tastes, we’ll never know....

On the whole, not necessarily worth reading, but it can't be good for Obama when Maureen Dowd is making fun of him...

He claimed he got caught up in the moment of a Fourth of July picnic in Butte, Mont., and a birthday celebration for Malia.

He actually dragged his daughter out to Montana from Chicago in order to celebrate her birthday as a campaign stunt? What a fun dad - "Bring your daughter to work day, and use her as a pawn for your personal election campaign".

No wonder Michelle can't remember being proud of her country; look at the company she keeps.

Glad that I am not the only one who noticed that.

I am willing to bet dollars to donuts that Obama's daughter wanted to have a birthday party with her friends in Chicago. I am thinking she may have wanted a Chuck-E-Cheese or Putt-Putt Golf type of party with all of her friends and family.

Anyway, all of that was clearly scrapped in favor of Barack Obama's political posturing and other assorted bullsh!t movements.

"...He’s flexible and a bit of a situationalist..."

A "bit," Maureen? The guy is gumby. His entire philosophy is "situationalist." Get real.

The ice-cream question, as silly as it might be, came up here a month ago, and picture after picture came in of Obama apparently "choking" down ice-cream in various settings, which proved that he's even willing to eat food he hates in order to appear more "normal" to mom-n-pop average American. The man is a manufactured icon, and the vapid of mind slurp it up like kittens to a warm bowl of milk.

Maureen Dowd is really spreading the Osmunda in this one. Hmmm, maybe she'll get the Endicott treatment from Obama...

“Daddy, Daddy, I want to spend my birthday in Montana, where I've never been and where none of my friends are!!! Please, Daddy, please!!!”

You gotta feel sorry for the kid. I hope he buys her a pony or something to make up for this.

Don't eat the hotdog, Barak Hussein Obama.

It isn't halal.

I don't know about 'pronated' but I grab my hot dogs with my fingers on the top and my thumb underneath. If that's pronated, then I guess I do.

I had the same reaction as I usually do after reading a Dowd columns: why did I read this column about absolutely nothing?

If MoDo had wrote that Barry’s mother in old photo’s reminded her of Mother Teresa and that Barry’s father reminded her of Confucius so therefore Barry is The Messiah, it would still be an article about nothing.

I wonder if this is how they eat hot dogs in France?

Maybe we can get Jean Francois Kerry to fill us in?

What an absolute wuss.

It almost looks as if he's afraid it will bit him back.

I don't EVER remember seeing anyone eat a dog like this or maybe its just that when growing up, his mom (on food stamps dontcha know) could not afford to buy meat including hot dogs so he never learned how to eat them???

Take a good ‘look’ at her.
She looks like she has never seem him try anything like this as she is angstly clutching her hands.
PREPARE YOURSELVES FOR A STATEMENT NOW THAT IT WAS A TOFU DOG so the Vegans will get ‘back on board’.
Of course the biggest fear is that it is a ‘pork hot dog’ in lieu of ‘beef’ or other ‘mystery meat’..

This would be a COMICAL situation if it weren’t for what is at stake....(steak?)

LOL. At first I thought she might be hoping he doesn't drip mustard all over his shirt. But then on second thought, I agree with you that it appears she has never seen him "attempt this before."

Sheesh. It's only a hot dog, which "NORMAL" kids learn to master how to eat at about 5 years old and never give it a second thought for the rest of their lives.

I'm pushing 65 and had a couple of dogs on Friday and never thought about how I would eat them. It certainly was not all contorted with my hand upside down like some elitist, metrosexual, arugala-eating, wuss.

Here's a blowup.

Yeah, yeah, I know. Much-a-do about nothing. But its early Sunday morning and its a slow news day. lol

And to think that Pulitzer winning Maureen is about the best the left has to offer as a columnist. Good night, stack her aimless drivel up against Krauthammer, Steyn, Hewitt, Rush or David Limbaugh, or even Colter and it's no contest.

That’s because so much attention has been drawn to his so-called church, which regularly demonized the United States, his wife’s comments about being proud of her country for the first time in her adult life, for his own refusal to put his hand on his heart for a singing of the national anthem and refusal to wear the flag pin. Now he has to try to make up the territory. I don’t know that it was outright posturing. I’m pretty sure that if he weren’t a close personal friend of Bill Ayers and have all these other troublesome details in his history, he wouldn’t have dragged that poor child out to have a ‘birthday celebration’ far from her friends. But, having said that, I would like to know when her birthday is because it seems too convenient that it would dovetail with the 4th of July. If she truly was born on the 4th, there was certainly some gnashing of the teeth in the maternity ward.
