Conservatives Ready To Battle McCain on Convention Platform
Washington Post ^ | July 7, 2008 | Michael D. Shear

Conservative activists are preparing to do battle with allies of Sen. John McCain in advance of September's Republican National Convention, hoping to prevent his views on global warming, immigration, stem cell research and campaign finance from becoming enshrined in the party's official declaration of principles.

....

McCain is "really out of step with the strong majority of his party," said Myron Ebell, director of energy and global warming policy at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, which opposes McCain's positions on climate change. "He might get what he wants. And he might get a change. But I don't think it's going to sit well with a lot of Republicans."

"We are confident that this process will produce a platform that all Republicans will enthusiastically support," said Joe Pounder, a spokesman for McCain. "Our party is united, and will continue to work together to elect John McCain in November."

I don't think that platforms mean too much. After all, if a president doesn't govern as his platform indicated, what can you do - sue him? Hell, if it gets a few more votes and keeps us from a President B Hussein Obama, let him throw a few crumbs to the "moderates."

Having said that, however, I would like to see the convention nominate a conservative VP, REGARDLESS of who McInsane prefers.

"He attracts a lot of votes in the middle -- independents and moderates," Ebell said. But "if he pushes on each one of these issues -- campaign finance, immigration, or global warming and energy issues -- he's likely to keep a lot of people at home on Election Day."

SIT DOWN, SHUT UP and just let McCain be McCain if you know what's good for you.

Conventions are coronation ceremonies. Nothing more, nothing less. McCain’s not going anywhere.

I’m just curious where this notion comes from.

Shoot the blame at the voters of New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Florida for McCain. And I guess we can throw California in the lot, too.

But really, nothing is changing about his candidacy.

Shoot the blame at the voters of... California.

Don't blame me, I voted for Romney--my third choice. Since my first two choices, Hunter and Thompson were going nowhere, I figured Romney represented our only hope of stopping McCain.

Why not just adopt the Democrat's platform and maybe get a few more votes for McCain. After all, the conservatives have no where else to go and will have to vote for McCain.

You are new here so I’ll let you know that I was using sarcasm. If you read my entire post, you would have likely figured that one out. I don’t know if I am going to vote for that Democrat in Republican clothing or not. Right now, leaning towards “not.” I tried the getting drunk thing just to convince myself that voting for that crapweasle is a good thing, but I kept passing out before I could get drunk enough. I despise McCain. Absolutely despise the man. The only thing remaining really is the VP pick. If he picks another liberal he is showing that he does not WANT my vote.

He already doesn’t deserve it.
