Not to mention the fact that the U.S. banned the slave trade in 1808 and it would have been earlier had not the Constitution forbidden any such ban till 1808.

Knowledge of our own history and the history of other countries is real power, but living on "knowledge" through sound-bites & bigotry is a weakness of ignorance. Unfortunately, too many people would rather get by on the latter, and that is an asset only to those who assert their power by manipulating us .
