Another rat scandal: subsidized rents for rat politicians
New York Times via MSNBC ^ | July 10, 2008 | DAVID KOCIENIEWSKI

While aggressive evictions are making rent-stabilized apartments increasingly scarce in New York, Representative Charles B. Rangel is enjoying four of them, including three adjacent apartments in a sprawling penthouse overlooking Upper Manhattan, courtesy of one of New York’s premier real estate developers. ...

Mr. Rangel is not the only prominent resident with a rent-stabilized apartment at Lenox Terrace. Gov. David A. Paterson told The New York Sun in May that he pays $1,250 for a rent-stabilized two-bedroom apartment in the complex that rents for $2,600 or more at market rates. ...

If the public ever needed evidence that rats live with a different set of rules, rent subsidies to politicians provides a clincher. I am amazed that it took this long for public knowledge of this deplorable situation. Rangel should be indicted for improper usage of rent subsidized housing.

We, the rabble, demand that the high and mighty spend the night with us in our refrigerator boxes!

Seriously, RAT’s are creatures of opportunity, the same as any other creature. This said, the offensive must be constructed on the lines of philosophy, not nature.

For all their talk of the oppressed masses and being for the little guy, liberals/socialists always see themselves as above it all. They need luxuries because they are special. They care so, the world needs them. And since the world needs them, the world owes them. So, whether it be rich Dems with rent-controlled apartments or Soviet politicians with their dachas on the Black Sea while the little guy froze on the streets of Moscow, its all the same sense of entitlement from a group of people who think they are the rightful leaders of humanity.

So Rangel is another corrupt RAT. No shocker there. I want to hear how he worms his way out of having 4 rent-stablized apts, cheating the poor New Yorkers out of their freebees.

And Gov Patterson too. A cheap PRIMARY RESIDENCE apartment in Harlem, plus a house in Albany. Wonder if he’s paying NYC taxes?

This is how it has always been for many decades. Politicians can always find themselves a great deal. Koch got a beautiful apartment overlooking Washington Square (at 2 Fifth Avenue) from the Rudins and his rent was said to be in the hundreds.

Mr. Rangel, who has a net worth of $566,000 to $1.2 million

Pretty good for being a Congressman since 1970. He also owns a villa in the Dominican Republic, and once owned a building in Sunny Isles, Fl. Just to give you an idea of Sunny Isles: Donald Trump owns a huge resort in Sunny Isles.

Read this http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/11/nyregion/11rangel.html?_r=1&hp&oref=slogin

Rangel has 4 rent controlled apartments in that building!

“Mr. Rangel, who has a net worth of $566,000 to $1.2 million, according to Congressional disclosure records, paid a total rent of $3,894 monthly in 2007 for the four apartments at Lenox Terrace, a 1,700-unit luxury development of six towers, with doormen, that is described in real estate publications as Harlem’s most prestigious address.

The current market-rate rent for similar apartments in Mr. Rangel’s building would total $7,465 to $8,125 a month, according to the Web site of the owner, the Olnick Organization.”

No. victims are victims. And the 911 Atrocity victims were that.
Are you defending the US Congress in their 'protection' of Americans?
or are you purporting the US Congress is altruistic?

I don’t think that’s what he meant. By letting Congress get away with what they do, we are letting them take us over the cliff.

Pretty good for being a Congressman since 1970.

Do you really think so? He's had an income of over $100,000 per year (in inflation-adjusted terms) for nearly four decades, and his net worth is a measly $1.2 million? I'd say this is evidence he is a fool who squanders his money. No wonder he squanders ours too.
