Editor & Publisher, the newspaper trade magazine, notes that many news organizations have been indirect in reporting on Jesse Jackson's tirade against Barack Obama. . . .
Jackson's statement is shocking, but not primarily because it is crude and vulgar. As the Chicago Tribune's Dawn Turner Trice notes:
Given Jackson's age -- he's 66 -- and civil rights background, he certainly understands the historical implications of black men and the threat of castration in this country. Quite frankly, it's a history that's painfuly [sic] intertwined with lynching.
The literature on lynching frequently describes it as a symbolic act of castration; and sometimes lynch mobs literally castrated their victims. So what was Jackson thinking when he entertained this sick fantasy about Obama? Trice quotes Jackson's later explanation:
"My appeal was for the moral content of his message to not only deal with the personal and moral responsibility of black males, but to deal with the collective moral responsibility of government and the public policy which would be a corrective action for the lack of good choices that often led to their irresponsibility."
The logical chain connecting this thought to a fantasy of sexually mutilating a presidential candidate is not immediately obvious. Yet we're going to take a crack at teasing it out. . . .

obama’s right. “we” don’t understand “them.” Jesse was talking the talk that obama won’t admit to completely understanding.

Jesse Jackson was cool to Obama’s candidacy at first. Obama did not come up through the political organizations that have been part of the civil rights coalitions.
But, what does it say about the politics of the situation when Obama is instead a product of the Chicago political machine?
Good point.
Also note, that is not the entire clip that FNC has.
There is more.
Hillary had been the Nutcracker-in-Chief since about ‘92.
It was affirmative action for Jacko to take her place.
And we're NOT talking Michael Jackson here...
It says a) America really is an amazing place and b) keep your hands on your wallets, sports fans.
right.
if any commoner had said that, gone.
clearly, jesse’s privileged position in the media allowed him this luxury.
he’s probably jealous that a younger man who wasn’t in the civil rights movement now has a crack at the presidency.
Jesse is just jealous because Obama has far surpassed Jackson at reaching the white house.
Jesse’s bloody shirt ploy has lost it’s charm....
It sounds like O'Reilly has far more footage with far more disparaging remarks made by Jesse about Barry. It almost sounded like blackmail (no pun intended) that they will leak out more footage - or at least hold it over Jesse to intimidate. Maybe they should just dump it all and let it fly.
Tweaking out psychosexual rage? Well ok, everyone’s got an opinion.
Here’s mine. Jackson was pistol whipping the man beside him, doing a dominance display. Message being, “I can say something utterly outrageous, obscene and spilling over with aggression, and you have to just take it with a goofy grin because I’m Jesse Jackson and you are a nobody.”
Humans are now too civilized to mount other humans just to make a point about who’s alpha; too refined to urinate on the little guy’s feet. But there still has to be a way of asserting dominance, of conveying the idea that the weaker one’s choice is only to giggle or grimace, submit with a smile or be humiliated. Filthy talk has replaced more primitive types of filth.
Obama was irrelevant; just a convenient topic.
He’s a sick puppy.
Exactly what I was thinking too. I hope BOR keeps on leaking more clips out one at a time, once enough blood is shown here, the media will move in, as they'll view him as old, sick and the slowest. Apologies, to a liberal is the same as bleeding.
It was a set-up to distance Obama from the ‘radical blacks’-
just like ‘disowning’ Wright was.
Possibly, but I think Barak would want all the voters he can get and Jackasson still doesn't realize he's not running and Barak is. Jackasson has placed himself between Barak and a hard place.
That was my take as well.
Some Republican on TV just echoed that. “Distancing himself from the more controversial..” Ah ha!
Anyone who has ever played a role in an election knows the strategic obsession of every campaign. There are no accident. That is how the game is played.
