Pelosi: Drilling in protected areas ‘a hoax’ By Jared Allen Posted: 07/10/08 01:28 PM [ET] House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Thursday shut the door on expanding oil and gas drilling beyond areas that have already been approved for energy exploration, drawing a clear distinction from her counterparts in charge of the Senate.

“This call for drilling in areas that are protected is a hoax, it’s an absolute hoax on the part of the Republicans and this administration” Pelosi said at her weekly press conference. “It’s a decoy to punt your attention away from the fact that their policies have produced $4-a-gallon gasoline.”

So we are ALREADY drilling off these shores?
So there IS no oil off these shores?
So an increase in oil future supply will not affect the price of oil futures?

In WHAT way is this a hoax?

PS. Barry WANTS to keep gas expensive. his "solutions" are to "use less" through alternate transportation, hybrids, etc. Not to reduce the price PER gallon. Makes sense. If we get people to reduce the gas use, we are going to need to keep the price up there for the road taxes.

The bigger problem is that 48% of the U.S. think that the Republicans are still running Congress.

Someone from the Republican party needs to step up and make the case about this do-nothing DEMOCRATIC-LED Congress.

well, the official Dim line is that the oil companies already have tons of leases they aren’t using...so giving them more area to drill in would just pollute 20 years down the line when they do decide to drill in those areas when oil is much more expensive than it is even now.

There’s some truth to this.

But what the Libs aren’t talking about is the REFINERIES they’re blocking. That’s where the biggest bottleneck is right now.

Do Nothing Nancy continues to do what she does best, Nothing. There is one issue that matters to people now, Drill or No Drill.

If you like $5/gal, Thank Congress in Nov.

Pelosi hates oil too much to know how to find it. Why should we listen to her?

Barry WANTS to keep gas expensive. his "solutions" are to "use less" through alternate transportation, hybrids, etc. Not to reduce the price PER gallon. Makes sense. If we get people to reduce the gas use, we are going to need to keep the price up there for the road taxes.

But reducing use is the hoax. If we don't use it to fuel our economy, will the reductions in use we make be great enough to sate the demand of the developing world?

In a word, no.

Whatever slack we create in global oil supply through our self-destruction will be taken up by the developing nations elsewhere, resulting in their being able to develop faster, but not much more cheaply (if at all).

However to Global Socialists (is there any other kind, really?) this would 'level the playing field' and remove some more of the disparity between the third world and ourselves.

The more I watch the apparent misfeasance, the seeming inability of the Republicans in Congress to sieze this issue and run the length of the political field with it, the more I am convinced they have sold out to the notion of a world government.

The information is out there. AGW has been refuted--heck, the planet isn't even warming. Energy self-sufficiency, inasmuch as we can achieve it, and border security are both essential to the strategic security of this Nation, and both are being ignored by and large as lynchpin campaign issues by the very people who should be promoting them.

Both of these issues are such no-brainers that this cannot be simple stupidity. There has to be more to it.

How did she come to power?

Because one Republican said the word “macaca”, another Republican had been sending sexually provactive text emails and IMs to a Democrat aide who shared them with the DNC and media, and anothr Republican got busted for soliciting a sex act with another man in the bathroom by tapping his toe on the floor while in a stall.

“culture of corruption”.

Remember? It was only 2006.

There’s some truth to this.

When you lease a block of leases from the government, you get the block. You might be interested in 10000 acres out of a hundred thousand, but to get those acres, you lease it all or not at all. If your 100,000 acre area has 5000 acres (out of the 10000 you were really interested in) which prove to be productive, but the other 95000 acres do not, you still hold the whole lease block by production. So even if there is nothing to drill, no probability of oil on the remaining 95% of that lease, or no way to physically place a rig to drill it (think very steep mountainside), you still have it all. Package deal.

The government makes more money by leasing acres this way, otherwise relatively small areas would be bid very highly, and other huge tracts not at all.

Unfortunately, you can't just stick a hole in the ground anywhere and recover oil and gas in quantities which will pay for drilling the well; the geological situation has to be right.

So, the way things are leased there will appear to be huge acreage the oil companies are not using, when in fact, there is nothing to use there.

Hmm. Since Nancy's been in charge (2 years now) the economy is tanking, gas prices are rising, unemployment is up, and house values are dropping.

Is this just a coincidence?

If the spineless weenies in the House were serious, they could get enough signatures for a Discharge Petition and then this plastic-faced harridan would have to let the bill to drill come to the floor.

Great description.
