In a remarkably short time the public has changed from supporters of environmentalism to advocates of drilling for oil and natural gas in the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) and/or in the ocean. For the first time since the 1970s liberals in both parties have found themselves responding to significant demands for drilling.

Lip Service; Wait for any meaningful legislation to make it out of committee. Don’t hold your breath.
Keep the charge going. They are on the run but there is no reason to believe they won’t just keep on running around right back to where they were when this started.
It would not surprise me at all if the oil companies lowered their prices just enough in the gas ‘off season’ after summer to make everyone forget about doing anything about it. Perhaps settle down somewhere under $4 a gallon, and ppl will be happy to just pay that much. And things will just stay the way they are.
This week Pelosi advocated stealing from the Strategic Reserve.
So that makes two rat proposals to date: hijack the Reserve, and raise federal gasoline taxes.
Brilliant.
That reminds me of an old addage that the Soviets used to use:
"Probe with a pitchfork. If you hit mush; probe further. If you hit steel; back off."
Bank on it.
Both are useless. The GOP has an opportunity to flay the Democrats on energy and push the most aggressive energy policy changes into law if they take advantage of it.
Kind of hard for the GOP to push for drilling in ANWR when your presumptive nominee for President has voted against it and is still against it.
This crisis is not brought to you by the “oil companies” it is brought to you by your Congress. Demand for oil has been increasing at an exponential rate for the past 20 years. The size of the demand has no reached a proportion where there is a significantly greater demand than there is supply.
Our government has banned, stopped and harmed every attempt to build new refineries, drill for new oil, use nuclear power and has even attacked the resources that are now available such as natural gas and coal.
To compound this atrocity they have taken corn and grains from the food supply and subsidized their entry into the fuel supply in the most harmful way possible. (Who is getting fat off this one?, Not “Big Oil”.)
Oil company profits on a percentage basis are dwarfed by the profits of many companies its time to place the blame on the real villains, our Congress.
The oil companies don’t control the price.
Confronted with the fact that the Destin Dome in the eastern Gulf of Mexico held known reserves of 2.6 trillion cu. ft. of natural gas and that Chevron owned the lease and has been wanting to drill there for years but has been refused drilling permits. All Menedez could do was repeat the mantra 10-68! What an idiot!
Again confronted with the fact that this was part of the 68 million acres that is part of the Dem. mantra and that Chevron is refused dilling permits. He said this was just one case and did not matter because there were 68 million acres not being drilled. Who Elected This Idiot?
>>>>>Both are useless.
Not just useless but completely out of touch with reality and the mood of the public.
>>>>>The GOP has an opportunity to flay the Democrats on energy and push the most aggressive energy policy changes into law if they take advantage of it.
Yes, I agree. I’m waiting for McCain to propose 50 nuke plants in 5 years or less, a Manhattan project of sorts.
Plus ANWR, plus offshore, plus appoint Pickens to a post on windfarms, plus undo the wilderness designations in Escalante, plus plus plus.
>>>>>your presumptive nominee for President has voted against it
Someone should tell McQueeg that he has a lot of positions to amend before he gets this conservative’s vote.
I know I’m not alone on this, he’d better morph into a conservative pretty darned quick.
“Keep the charge going. They are on the run but there is no reason to believe they wont just keep on running around right back to where they were when this started.
“
The Sierra Club and similar groups need to be flushed from their bunkers.
They need to be exposed for the undue influence they have had in keeping our nation hostage to hostile Middle eastern nations.
They have stopped most attempts at bring more energy resources to the market.
They are hostile to the idea of a properous United States. They want us energy poor and driving
Drill now, drill often, build nuke plants and refineries.
Not even close.

Shortsightedness is for losers...thank the Dimwits
“democrats retreat on energy...”
don’t count on it. those communist scu&bags in the u.s. congress are going to find whatever way they can to weaken the american economy.
they have no interest in “the environment”. their only interest is in gaining power and wielding it for their international handlers. (keep watching as they undermine the resolve of u.s. soldiers and they keep looking for ways to weaken economic activity; nothing but a bunch of arrogant scu&bags.)
IMHO
