Michael Savage: Straight talk, unfiltered
Radio Business Report ^ | July 9, 2008 | Carl Marcucci

Posted on 07/09/2008 2:50:25 PM PDT by MrCFdovnh

Talk Radio Network’s Michael Savage is no stranger to controversy and headlines. However, his show and audience just keep on growing. Why? Because he says what’s in his heart—right or wrong in the eyes of his listeners. He’s beholden to nothing and no one. And he’s definitely not afraid of a fight—enough so that he will put his own money where his mouth is.

Savage is great, compelling radio and his show is indicative of the power of radio. Yes, Savage is an entertainer (he can be hilarious without even trying), but he’s also an author and a bit of an activist as well—in things he really believes in. Of course, his audience backs him up.

He earned his PhD from The University of California at Berkeley and is the author of four best-selling books—a radio record! Liberal San Franciscans lock ears to their radios when Savage is live because they love his educated opinions and machine-gun wit.

We caught up with Michael recently and asked for his take on a lot of things—including what makes his show so successful.

Is he going to be promoting Jerry Brown today? I don’t think Weiner can give him more money yet, but he can still support him as usual.

The Savage Nation is the only show in the country where you can get away from the inside the beltway claptrap that you hear everywhere.

Sums it up.

Here’s what a “conservative” is supposed to be?

* Doing his very best to destroy American sovereignty by melding America into Mexico into Canada???

* George W. Bush (43): “I looked the man in the eye. I was able to get a sense of his soul.
I knew that President Putin was a man with whom I could work.”

* Allowed his wife to call a homosexual partner’s mom the “mother-in-law” ???

* Allowed the new Iraqi constitution to have a clause where no law would contradict Islam.

* Wanted to sell US port operations to Dubai - a nation that supports terror.

* Advocates a completely open border - to the detriment of national security.

* Calls the Minutemen “vigilantes”.

* Continually calls Islam a “religion of peace”.

* Pursues “free trade”, not fair trade. “Free trade” has not been very fair, so far.

* Supported Specter over Toomey.

* Told Hush to host Specter with softballs, and then Hush carries the water.

* Continually supported Linc Chaffee, and what did it win in the long run?

* Let Ted Kennedy write the education bill.

* Did nothing to rein in pork barrel government spending.

* In an exclusive interview with ABC News’ Charles Gibson, Bush said he believes that both Christians and Muslims worship the same God. “I think we do. We have different routes of getting to the Almighty,” Bush said.

I’m listing the actions of the PRESIDENT, FYI.

Oh, by the way, I don’t think Savage would talk about raping sheep like Rush did:

Speaking of Limbaugh, no human should be an “icon” - just a bit blasphemous, IMHO.

I don’t care for Savage. He’s generally right, most of the time — but he’s got a ridiculous tendency for hyperbole.

Overall, I don’t think he’s particularly good for conservatism. Conservatism is ultimately a reasoned, calculated, logical philosophy, in the tradition of the Founders, Buckley, Goldwater, Reagan, Bork, Scalia, Bennett and Limbaugh. These are all respectable men of respectable temperament.

Savage is a caricature — he’s angry, obnoxious, arrogant, poorly reasoned, imprudent, and prone to overstating his case. His penchant for going from zero to “hang him for treason” is entirely ridiculous. Ultimately, he is a has a flame-throwing liberal temperament coupled with somewhat conservative opinions. He’s an obnoxious windbag that happens to be right most of the time.

I don’t think he reflects particularly well on conservatism, and is not worthy of the mantle of Reagan or Buckley.

Who doesn't... but in California, where there remain a mere handful of true conservative politicians, to openly denigrate the eminently decent and truly conservative Chuck Poochigian, and openly support one of the most notorious, stinking, commie, rats in the entire country...not merely with words, but with the maximum political contribution allowable is unconscionable. Shame on Weiner forever.

Golden Gate Park is a good example. Used to be a beautiful wholesome family place. Now you have to be careful or you’ll step on a hypodermic needle.

He's an outlet for us upset and angry conservatives, I'd vote for him to be President in a second.

>> He is more conservative than the majority of elected republican officials

Agreed.

>> He’s pissed like alot of us conservatives.I say we need more like him in elected office.

More with his fundamental opinions, sure. More with his temperament, arrogance, anger — not at all. Truly great men are humble and genial — Reagan & Buckley come to mind. Savage is neither. He shoots his mouth off thoughtlessly. Though he is often on the right side, his arguments are poorly reasoned and poorly supported. He often resorts to yelling, barking and demonizing those that disagree with him — which, while tempting, does not win converts.

Conservatism cannot win with people of his particular obnoxious personality at the forefront. Perhaps he speaks to an angry segment of the base — but he drives more people away from the movement than he brings aboard. Ultimately, he betrays the movement he supports by painting conservatism as a philosophy populated by angry, obnoxious men incapable of reasonable disagreement.

Having multiple conservative elected officials of Savage’s personality would ultimately destroy conservatism by turning conservatism into a caricature.

I could stand him if only he would “chill out” a bit. He’s giving both of us a cardiac event.

I prefer Ann Coulter’s acerbic wit. Savage despises her with a vitriolic passion.

He also trashes Laura Ingraham

Savage must be jealous that Ann and Laura are much better looking than he is.
