The problem is, unless the state (whether the British Crown, or one of the several states of these United States) makes it impossible for private parties to enter into non-judicial binding arbitration, the state of affairs Lord Phillips is ‘advocating’ already exists.
So long as parties to a private dispute have the right to submit to binding arbitration by a mutually agreed arbiter, nothing prevents that arbiter from being an imam (or for that matter a bishop).
It was impolitic to say it the way Lord Phillips did. If he *really* wanted to express the thought, he should have observed what I just observed and left it at that without mentioning Sharia explicitly.

Another speaker says Muslims cannot accept the rule of non-Muslims. ‘You cannot accept the rule of the kaffir [non-Muslim],’ a preacher, Dr Ijaz Mian, tells a meeting held within the mosque. ‘We have to rule ourselves and we have to rule the others.’
God help us if it's true that Islam is making inroads in Mexico. That would be a disaster of epic proportions.

Remember these operative words ... this is their intention and we are aiding it by our continued political correctness and acceptance through ignoring the whole thing.
Their actions seem so obvious and formidable, and yet in this modern bizzaro world, they are pandered to and appeased. What a nightmare.
I think Islam and PC (on the part of the Brits) are about equal threats to Britain although political correctness may already have conquered the kingdom.
