I wonder if they just did’t know what it meant. On a realted note, years ago there was an art contest/show in our (Allegheny) County Courthouse - Pittsburgh is located here. It was about gun violence or black on black crime or something. Someone did a piece that was a respectful reinterpretation of Michaelangelo’s “Pieta.” It caused a minor controversy in the black community. Idiots are everywhere.
Hardly a reassuring thought. Furthermore, the fact they immediately assumed it had racial connotations says a lot about their own prejudices.
I’m sure he didn’t know what it meant.
But think about what happened. A black man, thinking that “black hole” was an attack on blacks, didn’t ask for an apology — instead, he purposely uttered a racist attack, calling it a “white hole”.
Then another black, seeing the racist attack, asks for an apology — but not from the guy who was clearly being racist, but from the other guy.
