Arkansas fight fans fall for Baron Cohen stunt (cage fighting fans see gay exhibition instead)

For those familiar with the antics of shock comic Sacha Baron Cohen , it was a case of déjà vu, all over again. On May 28, he outraged a crowd of unsuspecting guests at a Carrollton office park by luring them to what they thought was a new talk show on "family values." [Click image for a larger version]

Hello, Arkansas. As an encore early last month, he outraged a crowd of 1,600 by luring them to what was billed as cage fighting. Police say the show was designed instead to capture the reactions of the unsuspecting to the sight of two men tearing off each other's clothes and kissing.

Borat is brilliant, and he’s done it again. This time he’s gotten a bunch of lowlife rednecks violently outraged because they saw a silly, fake “gay” display, when they thought they were going to be watching oh-so-wholesome, um, CAGE FIGHTING!

I thought it was hilarious when I saw the story on Drudge. If it had been two women the reaction would have been quite different. Very hypocritical in my opinion! Homosexuality is homosexuality no matter which gender is involved. I would like to see this film.

News for all of the stupid rednecks out there: Bruno isn’t real.

Neither is a lot of this wrestling/cage fight stuff, so it's quite appropriate that the fans got trolled.

It's even funnier if you step back and think about the fact that the fans were paying to see a couple of guys grab all over each other while wearing skimpy outfights or tights, all the while workin' up a sweat. I'm not saying that professional wrestling is homoerotic or anything, but ummm... you couldn't pay me enough to put on tights and let another guy grab all over me.

Yeah, like there's nothing a little queer about cage fighting and wrestling to begin with.....male audiences cheering on sweaty men in underwear while they prance and preen and grab each other...

Dang, you beat me too it. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has always thought this stuff was a little weird to begin with.

I caught a cousin who was into wrestling off guard one time. I told him "let's watch a show where a couple of guys wearing hardly anything rip their clothes up and keep jumping on top of each other", and he got upset and was asking me what kind of freak I was, and then I said "whoops, I meant to say let's watch some professional wrestling". I would be surprised if he ever watched any wrestling after that.

All they had to do to ruin the shoot was to get up, and walk out without saying a word. But instead the audience acted like simple teenagers.

I think that's the key right there. He was trying to paint them as a bunch of simple backwoods yokels. If I was in the audience, I would have been offended more by that than the kissing because it was a personal insult.

I'm sure that some people who attended realized that refused to play the game. I feel sort of bad for them (although they did get to see some real fights and $1 beers).

However, I have very little sympathy for the people who basically confirmed his stereotype and acted like children throwing tantrums. All they had to do was act like adults to get their revenge. They couldn't even manage that.
