Obama to accept nomination 'for entire American people' (barf-up a lung Alert)
Obamanation Headquarters | 7/7/08 | Plouff

Friend --

I wanted you to be the first to hear the news.

At the Democratic National Convention next month, we're going to kick off the general election with an event that opens up the political process the same way we've opened it up throughout this campaign.

Barack has made it clear that this is your convention, not his.

On Thursday, August 28th, he's scheduled to formally accept the Democratic nomination in a speech at the convention hall in front of the assembled delegates.

Instead, Barack will leave the convention hall and join more than 75,000 people for a huge, free, open-air event where he will deliver his acceptance speech to the American people.

It's going to be an amazing event, and Barack would like you to join him. Free tickets will become available as the date approaches, but we've reserved a special place for a few of the people who brought us this far and who continue to drive this campaign.

If you make a donation of $5 or more between now and midnight on July 31st, you could be one of 10 supporters chosen to fly to Denver and spend two days and nights at the convention, meet Barack backstage, and watch his acceptance speech in person. Each of the ten supporters who are selected will be able to bring one guest to join them.

Make a donation now and you could have a front row seat to history:

Is it legal to run a national lottery or raffle?

That was my question. Someone needs to put it to the Federal Election Comission and if it is an illegal solicitation offer, file a complaint.

http://www.fec.gov/pages/brochures/complain.shtml

Filing a Complaint Any person may file a complaint if he or she believes a violation of the Federal Election Campaign Laws or Commission regulations has occurred or is about to occur.
The complaint must be made in writing and sent to the Office of General Counsel, Federal Election Commission, 999 E Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20463. The original must be submitted along with three copies, if possible.
Facsimile or e-mail transmissions are not acceptable. A complaint must comply with certain requirements. It must:

Provide the full name and address of the person filing the complaint (called the complainant); and Be signed, sworn to and notarized. This means that the notary public's certificate must say "...signed and sworn to before me...," or words that connote the complaint was affirmed by the complainant, (such as “under penalty of perjury”).

Furthermore, in order for a complaint to be considered complete and proper, it should:

Clearly recite the facts that show specific violations under the Commission's jurisdiction (citations to the law and regulations are not necessary);
Clearly identify each person, committee or group that is alleged to have committed a violation (called the respondent);
Include any documentation supporting the allegations, if available; and
Differentiate between statements based on the complainant's (the person who files the complaint) personal knowledge and those based on information and belief. Statements not based on personal knowledge should identify the source of the information.

PDF of FEC Laws here:

http://www.fec.gov/law/feca/feca.pdf

Someone with a better background in legalease than I have should go over it. I searched for terms like lottery, solicitation, raffle, etc. I also looked over a number of passages from the table of contents. Didn't see anything that specifically addressed it one way or the other. That is me.

Again, do not file a complain without finding some FEC law that they are violating.

You can also investigate where there are grounds to file a complaint with the Colorado Secretary of the State:

Here is more on Federal Gambling Law—I will spend some time going through it but there is a lot and I haven’t started Law School yet.

No way in hell would I ever vote for him. I have to vote for McCain but doing so is basically saying that it’s okay with me for the Republican party to become more and more liberal. That’s a fine choice to have to make right there.

Is it wrong that I am sooooo looking forward to the FR DNC live thread?? I predict it will be epic.

BTW, last Thursday on my way home from work I got stopped at a commuter train. There were these kids out on the corners handing out DNC propaganda (they had t-shirts on that said “DNC” in huge letters) to people walking to/from the trains. Is getting democrat votes in the Chicago area really a problem?? Seems a little like preaching to the choir.

Nope! I'm looking forward to it too :)

LOL! What loser wears a DNC t-shirt? That seems beneath even a liberal, and they don't seem to be too picky about their wardrobe :-D

Sort of like the American Idol Finale. I just wonder what the Dems will do when Mrs. Clinton ends up the nominee and she's in that huge arena screeching out her speech to empty seats.

I know!! I was just replying to your note and said the same thing! LOL!!!!

LMAO! What's even worse is they were over their regular clothes. They had that "fresh out of the packaging" look about them, too.

The t-shirts. Not the kids.

I don't know what they will do, but I will laugh, laugh, laugh, laugh!

I can't see how they are going to fill 75,000 seats. Oh! Remember how last week (I think) Rush was talking about how Denver was trying to move the homeless around so they won't be in the way of the convention? Put them the sky boxes, then let them out for the speech!

Is it true that McCain's get out the effort is lacking? DU is mocking McCain's GTO efforts. Hope our side isn't underestimating the amount of new young people who are going to vote for him. They are already organizing if they are voting on election day or via mail. From the belly of the beast...

Game time: Pretend you are interested in volunteering for McCain - guess where they send you:

To highlight the complete breakdown of the McCain campaign you can join and play:

Where in the hell is the closest state office?

Pretend you are living in any of these states and you go to their website. Guess where they will send you.

Now unless you have actually looked at the list could you ever get even one of these so to make it more interesting here are the

11 Regional offices that you could be sent to:

NV MN AZ CO MN IA FL VA MI NH NJ (There is one state office OH)

No logical person of any intelligence could have come up with such a completely back assward way of trying to get people connected to their campaign.

1) Louisiana volunteers report to the Colorado office

2) Tennessee volunteers report to the Florida office

3) Texas volunteers also report to the Colorado office

4) California volunteers report to Nevada

5) South Carolina volunteers report to Florida

6) Missouri which is much closer to Colorado than Louisiana or Texas is, reports to Iowa

7) Utah is a tough one because even though the west has very low electoral power it actually borders three states that have regional offices, NV CO and AZ, they go to AZ.

8) Idaho, which is only a few hundred miles away from Colorado (as opposed to LA, TX above) reports not to CO but to MN.

9) Arkansas - got you again - even though it is only one state away from Iowa reports to Colorado.

10) Well this was a trick question - Pennsylvania volunteers don't report to a regional office they are diverted to Ohio - even though Ohio is listed as a state office.

Per a poster, McCain has almost no staff on the ground in Ohio

The amount of staff from the Obama campaign (myself included) is astounding.

They are very confident.
