Platforms are meaningless when the party nominee holds views that are diametrically opposed to its core principles. Personnel IS policy.

With the impending nomination of John McCain, the Reagan pro-life plank, with its recognition of the Fourteenth Amendment protection of the personhood of the unborn, is GONE, whether they leave words on a piece of paper or not.

When the principles are gone, the principled should be gone as well. Otherwise, they have ceased being principled, by definition.

Those who would stay after the departure of the most important principles of all have become, to borrow a phrase from the great Fredrick Douglass, "unchained from the ringbolt of our destiny."

McAmnesty will give those here illegally a “path”(super hightway) to citizenship. The 12 million that he and other pro illegal immigration politicians are stating is more like 20+ million. In California alone we must have easily hit the 8-10 million mark. Don’t forget his original amnesty bill was to allow illegal alien “relatives” to join them (add another 80-100 million). The overall plan is to delvelop the North American Union. Once the politicians have a Latino voting block of 30-50 million the NAU will go forward. Look at the signs, NAFTA’s super highway, the imprisonment of Ramos and Campeon(sending the message to other border patrol agents), Bush’s SPP plan, open borders, etc... Get ready for the tidal wave of third world poverty.

Good point. How in just a few months does McAmnesty go from a 15% approval rating to the republican leading presidential candidate?

On another note: Obama is flipping on his Iraq pull out stance becuase the powers that be have sent him a strong message.

If you are conservative you just can not allow any of McCain's liberal agenda to take hold. I mean not only do conservatives have to stop this crap we have to utterly obliterate it!

This is the battle folks and if conservatives want to sit on their asses and not do anything then we will have the DBM/dems in control of congress for decades. My battle plans include writing emails and calling the GOP complaining to change it loser agenda to a winning conservative one, talk and debate with everyone republican I can stating it is unacceptable to allow moderates/rino's to control the republican agenda, opening up a can of whoopass on McCain and his cohorts, and finally, letting the GOP know point blank conservatives in this party will NOT accept any more moderates or rino's who can destroy the party from within!!

Conservatives need to go to the convention and raise total HELL to make sure the party platform consist of conservative ideals! This fight is with LIBERALS within our own party, you have too get rid of them before you can effectively fight the liberals in the DBM/democrat party!

RNC, prepare for the largest can of whoopass ever to be opened!!

What a bunch of bull.

In case anyone has forgotten, the delegates who vote on the platform are the same ones who will select Sen. McCain at the convention. The “platform fight”, such as it will be, is nothing but an exercise in choreography intended to demonstrate that conservatives have a voice in the GOP, where in truth they have no voice whatsoever.

For the last 30 years, the GOP platform has been based on the Reagan agenda -— strong military, tax reform, limited govt and support for pro-life issues. Many people who supported Reagan in the 1980`s, people like John McCain, have abandoned the conservative agenda in favor of more moderate policies.

If McCain gets to incorporate his policy agenda and the GOP platform is changed to include his positions on “global warming, immigration, stem cell research and campaign finance”, it will succeed in pushing conservatives further away from McCain.

No, it will be more like a badly executed opera, complete with melodrama. The overwhelming majority of the delegates selected via primary will be True Believers for McCain. There might be a “platform fight”, but it’ll be purely for the benefit of the cameras.

He’s not that stupid. Sen. McCain will accept a platform that he doesn’t agree with and then simply ignore it when, and very much if, he is elected.

It isn’t going to happen. Sen. McCain will be the GOP candidate, and Sen. Obama will be the Democratic candidate. Those are your major party choices.

I suggest voting for a conservative third party and encouraging others to do the same.

To be honest, Barr reminds me too much of RP. There isn’t much there that excites me. So, I elect to write in my favorite Conservative. I will also vote in all the locals for Conservatives to try get the locals back since the shellacking we took in 2006.
