Conservatives To Battle McCain Over Platform

Conservative activists are preparing to do battle with allies of Sen. John McCain in advance of September's Republican National Convention, hoping to prevent his views on global warming, immigration, stem cell research and campaign finance from becoming enshrined in the party's official declaration of principles.

Be prepared to be labled troglydytes for wanting such radical issues as ‘School Choice’, ‘No Partial-Birth Abortions’, No Gay Marriages’.

I predict that the GOP convention will be a lot like this fight here...

What I didn’t see in the article is what these conservative activists will do if these issues are included in the platform. Will they finally realize that the GOP only wants conservative votes but doesn’t want conservative ideology?

The platform is totally irrelevant. Just get rid of it. Nobody pays the least attention to it.

On the PB Abortion front, I don’t see how we don’t have a winning issue over the

Born Alive Protection Act.

Bambi says it is “too much of a burden on the woman” if an “accidentally born” botched abortion is cared for and allowed to live.

This needs to be in every 501c3 ad out there.

If McCain’s views become “enshrined in the party’s official declaration of principles”, then I will renounce my Republican registration and become an Independent.

The platform should contain “Secure the border” only, and not “Secure the border” first.

Amen on the platform.

This is just an opportunity for some to create publicity for themselves.

Fire away, folks.

The elites view the platform as a toy to keep the children occupied and away from the “adults” who are actually running things. In the case of the Republican party they are running things into the ground.

Fight the good fight, but have your tackle box ready to go fishing.
Rinos suckered us in the early ballots and left us with this LOSER. He will join the rest of the gutless ‘R’ LOSERS
in November.

Well it sure worked during the primaries where the children fought over who was the "real" conservative and who was pure enough. In the end, all that work didn't make a damn bit of difference. The GOP chose the "next in line" like they've been doing for decades. The real beneficiary of any platform fight would be Obama of course.

I'm with you. I don't know all the mechanics but the whole thing is rigged rigged.

I wish them all the luck in the world.

If McCain actually signs on to a 70% conservative platform I might consider voting for him.

This is what the whole McCain run is about. Hijacking the GOP and marginalizing the conservatives.

I’m not so sure it’s rigged but would love to hear any evidence anyone has. I think party membership is just more comfortable with what they know - they aren’t looking for the next great and trendy person like Democrats. Plus, unlike Democratic primaries the GOP has a number of “winner take all” states. This “electoral college” model makes it harder for a newcomer to get any traction. Hell, Reagan had to run for President 3 times before finally his “turn” came due (as the runner up under Ford) and he won the nomination.

Yes he will. But he will have achieved his goal of smashing the conservative influence in the GOP

Time for conservatives to sit down, shut up, grow up and accept the RINO. And gleefully follow him and the entire GOP to catastrophic defeat in November.
