Landrieu among 'Dirty Dozen'
Sunday, July 06, 2008
By Bruce Alpert

The League of Conservation Voters last week put Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., on its "Dirty Dozen list," saying she has done more to protect "Big Oil" than "the future for the people of Louisiana" from the threat of global warming. According to the environmental advocacy group, Landrieu has a lifetime score of 43 percent on votes in which it took a position, lowest among Senate Democrats running for re-election. "For a senator from Louisiana, which faces severe consequences from global warming, to fail to protect Louisiana is disappointing," said the league's senior vice president, Tony Massaro. Landrieu, who so far is the only Democrat on the group's Dirty Dozen list, was unapologetic. "The energy our state produces keeps lights on all over the United States, and we know that the answer to climate change and rising energy costs must represent a balanced bipartisan approach," said Landrieu, who contends that a global warning bill she opposed put a disproportionate burden on energy companies in her home state. Landrieu said she was a leading sponsor of a 2006 energy bill that will generate billions of dollars for Louisiana to restore wetlands and preserve green spaces. In 2007, the league gave Landrieu a 53 percent score on bills it considered important to the environment, compared with 0 percent for Sen. David Vitter, R-La. On the House side, Rep. William Jefferson, D-New Orleans, got a score of 75 percent, while Rep. Charlie Melancon, D-Napoleonville, received a score of 55 percent. No other member of the Louisiana delegation got a score higher than 10 percent.

Poor baby-faced Mary Landrieu, D-La, just can’t catch a break anywhere. The voter base in Nawrlins is gone, perhaps for good, dispersed by Katrina, the state legislature and the governorship has escaped the control of the Landrieu family, and now, the environmental Nazis are coming after Mary for daring to protect the oil industry in Louisiana.

Like Louisiana had anything much else to depend on. Sugar cane is largely gone, the fishing catch of several species is a bust, cotton is just bumping along as a marginal operation, and the Big River regularly dumps all the sediment from most of the rest of the Fly-over country on their doorstep, a mixed blessing at best.

It’s a different world out there, Mary.

Hell, that is EASY. ALL, ANYONE who calls themselves, or votes for MARXIST DIMOCRATS! About 55 million people last national election. Probably many more this election as they vote for "change."

Any Republican in La able to challenge Mary? That would be a good thing.

“The voter base in Nawrlins is gone...”

You’re wrong about the base being decimated. It is still there and may be stronger than ever. Besides that, she’s become more of a centrist with cross-over appeal. She’s barely made a political mis-step since Katrina.

This shows how a liberal keeps their chances of re-election safe by keeping the big business in their state happy.

Lyndon Johnson was a liberal senator and president, but he always made sure Texas oil was taken care of.

She doesn’t owe anything to the environmental lobbyists. Most of the Democrats in Congress are in debt to the enviros.

You have to give America some credit. The Left has been trying to kill off America since the 1960’s. Yet somehow we’ve still managed to make enormous progress.

I am sure Mary is wearing this as a badge of honor. She is up for reelection and “big oil” employs plenty of people and contributes a lot of money to the LA tax base. It wouldn’t surprise me to learn that she is behind the scenes trying to get this story out. It helps her.

I was wondering how Jindal got elected. I thought maybe it was because so many New Orleans voters are in Texas, Mississippi, etc. I was also wondering if maybe that Dem Congresscritter in Mississippi was elected because of so many New Orleans people being in Mississippi. I did read he ran to the right of the Republican though.
