Iran Eyes Death Penalty For Web Crimes
Agence France-Presse
July 03, 2008
TEHRAN -The Iranian parliament is set to debate a draft bill that could see the death penalty used for those deemed to promote corruption, prostitution and apostasy on the Internet.
MPs voted yesterday to discuss as a priority the bill that seeks to "toughen punishment for harming mental security in society." In addition to such crimes as rape and armed robbery, for which the death penalty is already applicable, it includes "establishing Weblogs and sites promoting corruption, prostitution and apostasy." Under Iranian law, the standard punishments for these crimes are "hanging, amputation of the right hand and then the left foot as well as exile."
The Internet is widely used, despite restrictions on access and the blocking of thousands of Web sites.

So, that would pretty much indict anyone with a non-government approved web site (as well as the rest of the world), since they can determine what meets or doesn’t meet their criteria. Anything with even a hint of Western culture or civilization would be subject to this law.

“If thy right hand offends thee cut it off”. That is a bit literal especially for a country that rejects the New Testament as being corrupted by Jews and Christians. On another note, the Muslim world is big into porn, homosexuality as well as bestiality.

"harming mental security in society"
That's a phrase I wouldn't bat an eye at, in a MoveOn, CodePink or DNC email.
"Help us stop the Neo-Conservative assault on the mental security of our society....."
Ya. It fits.

I’m an American. Iran can kiss my American ass. :)
Besides, haven’t all Americans already been condemned to death by them before? Who cares?

It’s talking about proposed law inside Iran. It has nothing to do with Americans.

They are already indicted, inprisoned and punished. This new law would allow them to be executed.

Nothing like life in a totalitarian society.
I wonder how many web-addicted American yutes understand that Obama wants to sit down with the lunatic leader of this country?

So If I have a blog and I say “Islam Sucks”, they can condemn me to death.
If they would go after the scum that write viruses and other malware, I could go along...
