New Report Indicates Voters Most Interested in Barack Obama’s Position on Abortion

A new report shows voters are interested in the position Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama takes on abortion. The Internet traffic monitoring firm HitWise indicates abortion is now the number one political issue voters are looking for when they conduct a search on Obama’s campaign web site.

Hitwise analyzed the top 200 U.S. search terms that sent visits to the presidential candidates’ websites for the first half of 2008, revealing the types of content searched for the most among Internet users.

Issues like education, the environment, health care and immigration are important to visitors on Obama’s web site, but HitWise says abortion tops them all.

In the first quarter of 2008, abortion came in as the number two most important issue on the minds of voters looking to Obama’s web site to learn more about him. As news of Obama’s pro-abortion position has filtered throughout the nation, the abortion search term moved up to the top spot over the last three months.

McCain’s pro-life position on abortion must be more clear to voters as abortion came in as the third most important issue in searches on his web site in the first quarter but slipped out of the top five in the second quarter.

Heather Dougherty, research director for HitWise, says the topics that voters put in searches on the candidate web sites, give an indication of what political issues are most prominent on their minds.

“This has implications for what content should be featured on the candidates’ websites, and broadly across all communications with voters,” she said.

With Obama as a newer candidate with a surge in interest and popularity, his campaign web site receives 79.25 percent of online visits when compared with the traffic of the McCain site. But Hitwise shows McCain’s web site is increasing in traffic as he moved from 14.62 percent in May.

This represents a seven percent increase compared to May 2008 and a five percent increase over April 2008 traffic McCain’s web site received.

McCain’s web site is also receiving more traffic from new visitors than Obama’s. In June 2008, Barack Obama’s website received 55 percent of its visits from returning visitors and 45 percent from new visitors. McCain’s website received 21 percent of its visits from returning visits and 79 percent from new visitors.

Among all U.S. websites, both candidates saw increases in visits as Obama’s website increased 1,367 percent and McCain’s website increased 2200 percent compared to June 2007.

Interesting that Democrats value murdering babies in the womb above everything else. How could any religious person vote for that?

That sounds like hopeful news. If they care about it enough to look it up, then maybe once they find out he supports abortion it will make them reject him. I hope McCain is planning on making a lot of noise about abortion during the campaign since it is one of the few positions where he has been consistently conservative and different than Obama so it will give people a clear choice.

No Christian/Catholic can in right conscience vote for this baby killer! (If Catholic, they are excommunicating themselves by voting for Obama.

McCain will probably get the serious pro-life vote. Pro-lifers won't sit this one out. As problematic as McCain is on stem-cell research, do people think pro-lifers will take a pass when the alternative candidate is pro-infanticide?!

Although McCain's thinking is about stem-cell research is mistaken and confused, when it came time to adopt the Indian baby from the orphanage what did he do? I am fully aware of McCain's shortcomings, but whatever you think of the McCains, to adopt that child the way they did is pro-life.

I should add that many in the pro-life movement are Catholics. One should not forget that Cindy McCain received that child from one of Mother Theresa's orphanages. If this fact were more widely known it would certainly win some votes among Catholics, who pretty much compose the proverbial "swing vote."

BTW, are there not some pics of Cindy McCain with Mother Theresa? Putting them out there would be smaltzy and a little manipulative, but they certainly would present a great contrast to the O-man's spiritual mentors: Mother Theresa vs Pastor "G-D America" Wright. McCain would probably think it's undignified, but the sooner he realizes he's in for a fight the better. This is a presidential election, so no more "above the fray" BS. Putting out a pic of Cindy and Mother Theresa would be a little manipulative, but it would also point out a substantive difference between the candidates. That would be completely fair.

It's not just that Obama is pro-abortion. If some poor wretched creature survives the abortion attempt, Obama would still allow you to "off" it. That is so sickening, I can't imagine that anyone could allow it. Yet Obama would. You would think some sort of instinct would kick in to save an abortion survivor, but not in Obama's case.

When you look at the range of issues and attitudes they support, it's the Obamas whose souls are sick, not America's. If they want to "cure America's soul," let them cure themselves first.

What kills me about Obama, is that he's either (1)intellectually inconsistent to the point of incoherence, or (2) a damned liar when it comes to abortion.

Jill Stanek lays out very well how Obama first said he didn't think the born-alive infant met the 14th Amendment's qualifications as a "person" in the Constitutional sense of the word (what qualifications??) and then he changed his tune and said he would have "supported the Born-Alive Infant Act in Illinois if it had had the same provisions as the Federal Act, which stated that it would not impact Roe vs Wade."

First of all, when the Act was re-introduced into the IL legislature in a form identical to the Federal act, he blocked it from being voted upon, and furthermore, there was nothing, no clause or disclaimer of codicil, in the Federal act that stated that it would have no impact on Roe vs Wade.

Yet even Barbara Boxer, a reliable abortion enthusiast, voted in favor of the Born Alive Infants Act.

Obama is glib. But if you follow his position, he gives you whiplash.

The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom, and ultimately that will end abortion. Church leaders are finally stepping up to the plate and telling the faithful that a vote for a pro-abortion politician is a vote for evil and God will ask them about that vote in the final reckoning.
