Buzz up! The ad man behind Guitar Hero and Nike takes a subversive look at American ideals in his new book, E Pluribus Venom.
As a graphic designer, Shepard Fairey has helped market some of the biggest names around: Nike, Zeppelin, Guitar Hero. And with his new book, E Pluribus Venom (Gingko Press, $30), Fairey has taken to branding Americas great national ideals -- capitalism, nationalism, militarism -- with a series of subversive ads. You wont find much of the clear-eyed optimism of Faireys Obama posters (not included in the book), but you will find America.

Peter Max was much more colorful, it WAS the psychedelic era, after all, lol.
You're right.
.
This creep is copying old stuff and using it to hype a Commie who is intent to “change” for America
Colors - graphics he uses are ripoffs of Andy Warhol - except this guy idolizes Che
And not just hyping Obama with his art, but using it to raise over $400,000 for him!
I forgot to add the link:

I wanted to make an art piece of Barack Obama because I thought an iconic portrait of him could symbolize and amplify the importance of his mission. I believe Obama will guide this country to a future where everyone can thrive and I should support him vigorously for the sake of my two young daughters. I have made art opposing the Iraq war for several years, and making art of Obama, who opposed the war from the start, is like making art for peace. I know I have an audience of young art fans and Im delighted if I can encourage them to see the merits of Barack Obama.

See, it's all about "peace, love, togetherness" and "change"...

Nice example

Obama’s art is Obama!
You all need to reread my post - slowly.
I said that I was not up on the man, that I didn’t know about his arrests, but that I liked color and liked some of his things. IS THAT A CRIME?
I said I hated who he was working for.
I read up in wikepedia and it said many good things about his art through the years!
Pardon me for posting.
.
OK
Pardon my for replying
Serrano also got accolades and tax dollars for putting a crucifix in a jar of urine.
Doesn't make it high art.
[Doesn’t make it high art.]
Did I say it was weegee?
Can someone not even say they kinda like something [even though they dislike the ‘topic’ of it ] without being ‘piled on’ around here?
There is too much hate on this forum anymore, people are losing their sense of being nice to others even if they disagree with them.
“The book comes out on July 31.”
*Lammas Night*?!?
How very...uh...convenient.
Gather the children of the corn and let us crown the Sacred King.
Huh.
Think I’ll pop The Wicker Man in the DVD player.
[or maybe El Cid]
Someone borrowed heavily from my tagline.
I’ve been aware of Fairey’s posters/stickers/mugs/etc for years.
They have a clean line and design about them. Then you see how much they appropriate from other works. And the underlying political message. And now he has not only co-opted his own style (OBEY - THIS IS YOUR GOD) for a political candidate, he has cheapened the political process by turning a major party candidate into a brand name.
I LIKE IKE was a slogan.
This is just idol worship. Saw it under Saddam, Castro, Stalin, Kim Jong, and Hitler. No thanks.
He’s entered the arena of politics. He’s no longer a “social critic” making “ironic” jokes. He’s a propagandist. OBEY - THIS IS YOUR GOD. The two subliminal concepts he admits to lifting from John Carpenter’s THEY LIVE.
I find it vile and unAmerican.
There are other ironic artists who’ve been profiled in Juxtapoz magazine along with Mr. Fairey for the past decade. More credible and worthy was the man who sought to re-cast the swastika, which long existed as a symbol in wide use around the world before the NAZIs appropriated it.
One example of his work has white doves nesting inside a blue swastika on a pink background.
I don’t cast any anger at your appreciation of OBEY-GIANT’s work. I cast my anger at Mr. Fairey and his subliminal ad campaign that was contracted by the Obama campaign. This is the core iconography of the Obama campaign. The artist’s politics are a part of the debate of Obama’s politics. He knew very well who and what he was getting.
I think that is what I like, that and the colors. Truthfully I think we see so many of them every single day that I glance at the picture and no longer pay much attention to the text. One becomes inured to them but they remain a subliminal message.
Making graphics to disparage Hillary and Obama has been my hobby for as long as it's been going on now. I don't usually make long comments but got caught up in the Birth Certificate threads after I posted it the day KOS put it out.
The arguing, name calling and posting of false facts has upset me a lot. There was a poster called Cyberella, who posted nothing but the same three anti Obama posts for almost five months - I looked. She was banned, but we had already put some of her quotes on graphics. I think she may have come here to deliberately do that.
These quotes have turned out to be false. the page numbers of Obama's books have been put out on the web and the quotes are nothing like the 'supposed' statements, but many won't pay attention. I have read through the full original statements in his books.
That's where my word 'hate' comes in. There is outright hate of Obama, understandable, but I disapprove of name calling and accusations of things that people 'think' he did. The hate causes 'bleed over' into other areas.
Fighting him needs to be based on political issues and absolute facts concerning his 'friends' of horrendous repute. There is enough material there and he is already flip flopping on issues.
Remember the Terri Schiavo threads and the fighting that went on? Friendships were lost during that time.
Thank you Weegee for your letter and civil explanation, that's the kind of talk I appreciate. Sorry I got off the topic of the thread but they all tie together.
My 'black and white' period, lol...
I agree that the false paraphrasings of Obama’s books have only discredited the accurate quotes.
I like what Hugh Hewitt did. He played unedited excerpts of Obama’s books are read on tape by Mr. Obama. If the text is not 100% match of his book, it is his own paraphrasing of the material.
He didn’t just play one or two clips over and over. He didn’t just play 8 word samples. He played them at length.
I’ve said on other threads that things like the comments about being sworn in on a koran (which was Ellison) or studying koran at a Madrassa (he studied Koran but not at a Madrassa) serve to discredit everything in the email. And there is a basis of fact in there that the Obama campaign denies altogether. Michael Medved addresed it this week on his radio show saying that Obama’s staff only feeds the rumor by pushing the lie (my word) that Barack never studied Islam. Guess it depends on what the meaning “raised” is. I’d say if you can recite the Islamic call to prayer you studied Islam.

The truth about Barack Obama’s faith
Lie: Barack Obama is a Muslim.
Truth: Senator Obama has never been a Muslim, was not raised as a Muslim, and is a committed Christian.
Another question, where was Barack baptised? When was he baptised? It’d help establish when his raising as a Christian began.
On one version of the poster, the Obama logo was modified by Shepherd Fairey to incorporate Fairey's usual Andre the Giant "OBEY" red star. It is in the lower right corner of the poster in the middle of the Obama campaign button.
That was not a hoax or forgery. That was Shepherd's gag.

I suffered severe hearing loss in my mid 30's and am unable to listen to any of the talk show hosts. I know I miss a lot but on the other hand I think people who sit and listen to it all day long, every day, can become so angry inside that it is bad for them. Just my thought.
I have depended a lot upon Beckwith's site for information, I know he works to keep it accurate.
We haven't seen a foolproof Birth Certificate, we don't know that he registered for the draft and we don't know if he was baptized.
We do know he attended a Catholic school that taught islam, [yikes, I am Catholic!], and that he did study the koran. I have read it in his own words but don't have the source at hand right now.
Thank you for another nice letter. I have to leave to go shopping now.
This is one of my latest gifs and as far as I know it is a true quote by Obama. If I find out differently I will scrap it.
Have a nice day Weegee and a happy 4th of July.
Thank you, I will go to the site later and check it out as I don’t see it here, just a tiny white dot but my monitor is getting darker now.
