Senator Obama's "The America We Love" speech, delivered in Independence, Missouri on June 30, might be more accurately entitled, "My Definition of Patriotism." It was as much about him as America, and it was full of meta-messages. A close reading of his 3,000-words address reveals meta-messages at various depth levels. Here are several listed in their order of appearance:

How bad is it that a man running for President has to make this speech?

Another deep level meta-message is aligned with his sponsorship of Senate Bill 2344, the Global Poverty Act of 2007. In his speech he asked, "How do we ensure that in an increasingly global economy, the winners maintain allegiance to the less fortunate?"
Part of his answer to his own question is in his proposed bill to allocate $845,000,000,000 of foreign aid to be dispensed over 13 years in cooperation with the United Nations.
The meta-message here is:
We have a patriotic responsibility to the world's improvised [sic] as well as to our own.
This is an excellent article but I think, at least in this instance he missed the real meta-message. What Obama is really saying here is that our first patriotism is to the world, not to the United States and he will be doing all he can to bring the United States completely under the sovereignty of the U.N.

RUSH: This is Chris Hernandez who is NBC Action News, Kansas City. When we played sound bites of Obama's political speech yesterday on patriotism in Independence, we listened to it, and it sounded like there was the usual Obama throng, correct? Thousands and thousands of people fainting, shrieking, throwing their underwear up there, going wacko. Not the case. Here's the report from Kansas City's NBC affiliate last night.
HERNANDEZ: There were a couple of hundred empty seats even though Obama's staff says all 1,000 tickets were given out in just two hours Saturday, and this was a much quieter crowd than at previous Obama events.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE OBAMA SUPPORTER: It was very quiet in there at one point. I felt like I was at church, almost, right before he came out.
HERNANDEZ: A member of Obama's staff tells me they didn't want to overbook and then have to turn people away, but apparently some people who got tickets Saturday didn't show up today. The quieter atmosphere may have also been because this was considered a more serious speech, and no political leaders came out to whip up the crowd before Obama started speaking.
RUSH: I didn't know that that was necessary. Political leaders whip up the crowd? Political leaders usually put 'em to sleep. I thought it was Obama that whipped up the crowd. I thought it was Obama that was The Messiah. I thought it was Obama who caused people to shriek and lose sense of their dignity and go nuts. Two hundred empty seats. They were giving them away all morning long. In a place that holds 1,000 people. So we would have never known this, we would have never known it, and outside of Kansas City nobody did know it until you just heard the Kansas City NBC report just now. That is another example of this program providing a much-needed public service, doing the job the Drive-By Media used to do but won't, i.e., tell you the truth.

We have a patriotic responsibility to the world’s improvised [sic] as well as to our own.
Thanks for the *sic.* I noticed that error as well. The United States has been SUPER generous to the poor of this world. We always have and always will...but most of that has been the result of VOLUNTARY charitable giving. Obama’s support of the U.N. Global Poverty Act would put such a tax burden on the average citizen that it would defeat the claimed purpose.....not to mention what it would do to our own sovereignty.

Exactly!!!! This is the main reason I think this man could destroy the USA.

The candidate from Hawaii hasn’t a clue as to what patriotism means — in fact, his newspeak turns patriotism on its head.

Yep, we fought a revolution to escape the British empire, and this piece of ignorant dung called a candidate, in all his rampant stupidity, is ready to relinquish US sovereignty to a group of corrupt world thugs.

Obama is an historical moron. He doesn't know, and doesn't care, how the United States became what it is, and how other nations became what they are. As long as the sound bites advance his cause -- to be elected President -- it matters not whether they are remotely related to the facts, or to each other.
He is even worse, and by a large margin, than John Kerry when I debated him when he was a sophomore in the Yale Political Union, in 1963. Kerry was wrong, and arrogant. But at least he was coherent.

You know, criticizing Obama’s speech like this could constitute a hate crime.

We frequently hear those on the Left say, “How dare you question my patriotism!” The problem is, they have redefined the term “patriotism” to be anything and everything they chose it to be, thus stripping the term of all real meaning. These days, literally everyone can be called a patriot no matter how much he hates our country and works to destroy our Constitution and our institutions.
I often hear Conservatives such as Sean Hannity on the defensive, quick to deny that they are questioning anyone's patriotism. But I think that is ridiculous! That is buying into the Left’s definition. Some people are NOT patriots. Let's quit pretending that they are!

I will not only end the Iraq War, but deemphasize the war on terrorism. Obama stated that "we are in the midst of war" and tallied the casualties from Iraq and Afghanistan. He made no reference to the war on terrorism, nor uses any of its alternative labels. Neither does he mention the casualties of 9/11. His only reference to that event was in the context of how the Bush administration called for no sacrifice from Americans in its wake except to go shopping.
This is one thing that the Dims refuse to understand about the US economy and it relates not only to the war but to our using one quarter of the worlds oil production.
If the US wants to win the war it needs a strong economy. To keep the economy strong and growing the people need to continue to work and spend.
The US has the most modern, best equipped army in the world. That army is paid for with taxes gleaned from the most powerful, most productive economy in the world. You do not maintain that economy by taxing the people in to an economic contraction which seems to be Obamas plan.
The US uses one quarter of the worlds oil production because we have the worlds most vibrant economy. A strong vibrant economy requires a great deal of energy to sustain production.
To finance the war keep the economy strong, keep taxes at present levels or preferably lower.

"I came to understand that our revolution was waged for the sake of that belief that we could be governed by laws, not men; that we could be equal in the eyes of those laws; ... that we could have the right to pursue our individual dreams but the obligation to help our fellow citizens pursue theirs."
Obligation? What "obligation"? Anybody see any such "obligation" in the Declaration, Constitution, anywhere? In the goodness of one's heart perhaps, or the Golden Rule, but not in any government instituted "to secure these rights" -- unless one is leaving an escape clause for socialism.
